Tomorrow is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day… and we need you to be part of it. 🐾

Every single day, shelters across the country—and right here at the Humane Society of St. Thomas—are caring for animals who are simply waiting… waiting for a second chance, waiting for a family, waiting for you.

Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, observed every April 30, shines a light on the millions of animals in shelters who deserve more than a kennel… they deserve a home. ❤️

This isn’t just about adoption (although we LOVE that 😉)… it’s about awareness and action:
🐾 Fostering a pet in need
🐾 Volunteering your time
🐾 Donating food or supplies
🐾 Sharing a post that could change a life

Right now, shelters everywhere are feeling the strain of overcrowding. The need is real. The numbers are high. But the solution starts with people like you.

So tomorrow… let’s show up for them.
Let’s speak for those without a voice.
Let’s help them find their way home. 🏡

Stay tuned… because tomorrow, we celebrate the lives waiting to be changed. 💙

Pictured below is Kendall and Mister.
Both eagerly waiting their opportunity to see the paper put on their kennel that says I’m adopted!!

🐾🌴 OWNER SURRENDER – MEET Beatrice 🌴🐾

Sometimes loving a dog means making the hardest decision… and today, Beatrice finds herself starting over 💔

Beatrice was surrendered to us because her family is moving away for work and cannot bring pets to their new home. This wasn’t a lack of love—just a situation so many families here sadly face.

But here’s what we know about this sweet girl… 💛

✨ Super sweet & gentle - Beatrice is quiet, kind, and has the softest, most loving personality
🎾 Playful but easygoing – She enjoys her moments of fun but isn’t over-the-top
🐕 Leash pro – Walks beautifully on leash and knows to do her business outside
💞 People lover – She bonds closely with her humans and just wants to be near you

Beatrice does have a bit of separation anxiety, which tells us one thing loud and clear—this girl LOVES deeply. She’s the kind of dog who will be your shadow, your couch buddy, your constant companion.

We’re not yet sure how she does with other animals, as she hasn’t been around them before.

🌴 Like many of our coconut retrievers, Marie is learning what this next chapter looks like… and she deserves a soft place to land. A home where she feels safe again.

📞 If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will adore you with her whole heart, Marie might just be your girl.

Call us at 340-775-0599 or stop by to meet her.
Let’s not let her wait long 💛

He was dumped like trash. No collar. No name. Just skin and bones, too weak to lift his head, wounds raw, fur gone in clumps, his body trembling in silent pain. His eyes — glazed, distant and wondering "why". Why me? What did I do?

When rescuers found him, he couldn’t stand. His limbs barely supported him. His blood was so thin, his hematocrit level was just 5%. That number meant one thing: he was hours away from slipping away forever.

They moved fast. Blood transfusions. Fluids. Antibiotics. Warm blankets. The rescue team was doing whatever they could to keep him alive. For days, silence reigned. No bark. No whimper. Just shallow breaths and the hum of machines. A dog who had once existed was now holding on to nothing but hope.

Then — a flicker. A spark. His gums flushed pink again. Eyes lifted. Breaths steadied. He showed the first sign of life. He didn’t snap. He didn’t growl. He just… watched, trusting that now, he was safe.

In the next days, miracles arrived slowly. Fur began to shade in where skin once lay raw. Weight returned bit by bit. Two weeks later, he was cleared to leave the clinic. Walking by himself. Curiosity in his eyes. Tentative tail-wags, then bold ones. He wasn’t a ghost anymore — he was alive.

He landed not just in a shelter but in love. Volunteers whispered “welcome home.” That's when he learned that not all humans were evil.

Then came the call that changed everything. A family saw his journey. They weren’t just looking for a pet — they were offering a home to a scarred soul. Now, every night, Kaefsi curls beside his new sister. Sleeps without fear. Eats with relish. Wakes up to love. Once discarded, he is now cherished. Once silent, he now wags. Once broken — now whole.

If this touched you — if you feel his story in your heart — go see his transformation in the comments. You'll have tears in your eyes seeing him now.
