Nessa is a beautiful, athletic 66-pound shepherd mix with a big smile and an even bigger presence.

She’s ready to trade uncertainty for a home of her own — one that will give her the time, structure, and affection she needs to settle in and show just how special she can be.

If you’re looking for a dog who’s ready to be part of everyday life and grow into her place with you, Nessa might be the one.

Socialization is more than just “meeting lots of people.” 🐾

For young puppies, the goal is to help them build positive, low-pressure experiences with the people, animals, environments, sounds, surfaces, and handling they’re likely to encounter throughout life.

A few important reminders:
Exposure alone isn’t socialization — the experience should feel safe and manageable to the puppy.
Let the puppy set the pace.
Pair new experiences with treats, play, praise, and plenty of space.
Never force an interaction just to check something off the list.
Quality matters more than quantity.

We put together this Puppy Socialization Checklist as an easy guide for adopters, fosters, and anyone raising a young working-breed puppy.

Save it, share it, and use it as inspiration for building confident little dogs one good experience at a time. 💚

Knox asked his foster family to share his recent adventure in Yellowstone with you in case you’re looking for a very handsome boy to have adventures with. He is under a year old and still learning about all the great things the world can offer him. 🥰

Cover girl energy, puppy edition. 📰💚

Petunia may be small, but she has a lot of growing, learning, and exploring ahead of her.
Born June 6, 2026, Petunia is an Australian Cattle Dog mix. Her parents weighed only about 15–30 lbs, so she may stay on the smaller side for a working-breed mix.

She’s looking for a family ready to build a great foundation with training, enrichment, structure, and plenty of opportunities to experience the world together.

Think Petunia belongs on the cover of your life? 💚

R***r has already handled a lot of the hard stuff. 💚
He sleeps through the night in his crate, is potty trained, knows how to use a doggy door, and does well on leash. He also enjoys the company of other dogs, so he’s coming into his next home with a pretty solid foundation already started.
R***r is not a good match for chickens, and to be safe we’re recommending a home without cats or other small animals.
What he needs now is a family that will keep building on his training, give him structure, and make him part of everyday life. Bonus points if everyday life includes a hammock. 😄

We’ve been asked to make room for a few more little ones. 💚

The puppies in this video need rescue placement, and we believe the five smaller puppies are the ones who will be coming to NWWBR. Before we can officially say yes, we need foster homes ready for them.

They’re young puppies, which means all the usual puppy stuff comes with the package: potty training, chewing, socialization, learning household routines, and plenty of supervision. They don’t need perfect homes—they need safe, patient people willing to give them a good start while we work on finding their forever families.

If you’ve been thinking about fostering, this is a great time to jump in. Even one available foster home makes it possible for us to help one more puppy.

🐾 Interested in fostering one of these pups? Apply at workingdogsnw.org

Please share, too—the faster we can line up fosters, the faster we can get these little ones into rescue.

A little bad luck for three very cute puppies. 💚

Poppy, Posie, and Petunia came into NWWBR last week, and all three have now been diagnosed with ringworm.

The good news is that ringworm is treatable. The less-fun part is that treatment takes time and comes with extra expenses for medication, veterinary care, supplies, cleaning, and keeping the puppies safely separated while they recover.

These three are already getting the care they need, but we could definitely use some help covering the added cost.

If you’d like to chip in toward Poppy, Posie, and Petunia’s treatment, every contribution helps us keep their recovery on track and continue saying yes to the next working-breed dog that needs us. 💚

And yes—they are every bit as ridiculously cute as the photos suggest.

The scouting report is in: Poppy has serious prospect potential. 🏈🐾

Born June 6, Poppy is an Australian Cattle Dog mix with a growing puppy brain and plenty of learning ahead of her. With a 15–20 lb mom and a dad around 30 lbs, she may stay on the smaller side for a working-breed mix—but there’s still a lot of personality packed into that little frame.

Her ideal team? A family ready to put in the reps with training, give her opportunities to explore and adventure, and make her part of everyday life as she grows.

Think Poppy deserves a spot on your roster? 💚

Nutmeg is still figuring out the world — and apparently everything deserves a closer look. 😂🐾

Born around 7/18/26, Nutmeg is a sweet shepherd-mix puppy with an adorably curious little face and a whole lot of growing ahead of him.

He’s at the age where life is equal parts exploring, learning, chewing things that probably weren’t intended for chewing, and discovering what it means to be part of a family. His future people should be ready for the normal puppy package: house training, socialization, basic manners, patience, consistency, and plenty of affection.

Nutmeg is looking for a forever home where he can grow into a confident, well-loved companion.
