🐱🔎 The Case of the Missing Cat Collar! 🐶

A cat collar went missing, and there was one obvious suspect… the spunky young puppy! 👀🐾 Fingers were pointed, accusations were made, and naturally, the puppy maintained complete innocence. 😇

Since puppies like to act as four-legged vacuum cleaners, picking up just about anything they can find, we decided to take a closer look. Quick radiographs showed NO signs of a cat collar hiding in the gastrointestinal tract. 🎉

Gastrointestinal foreign bodies can be serious and scary, especially when our pets decide that socks, toys, rocks, or random household objects look like snacks. Not every foreign object shows up well on radiographs, but luckily, this particular cat collar had metal rings attached, which would appear bright and obvious on X-rays if it had been swallowed.

So, for now, the puppy has been cleared of all charges. 🕵️‍♀️🐶

The collar? Still missing.
The puppy? Still suspicious.
The vacuum cleaner behavior? Highly likely. 😂

Remember: if you suspect your pet swallowed something they shouldn’t have, don’t wait for symptoms to become severe. A gastrointestinal foreign body can become an emergency very quickly. ❤️🐾

🐾 When Your Pup Gets a Little Puffy! 🐶

Allergic reactions in dogs can look very different depending on the severity. They can range from minor facial swelling, like the puffy muzzle seen in this sweet pup, to more aggressive reactions involving hives, vomiting, difficulty breathing, or even anaphylaxis. While some reactions may remain mild, others can progress quickly and require immediate veterinary attention.

Some common triggers include:
🐝 Insect bites or stings
🌱 Exposure to plants, grass, or other environmental allergens
🍗 Food or treats
🧴 Shampoos, cleaning products, or other substances they may have come into contact with
💊 Medications or vaccines

After an exam, we treated cute Lucy with injectable medications to help get the reaction under control, along with some appropriate over-the-counter allergy medication for continued support at home. Thankfully, this sweetie did wonderfully and that adorable muzzle was soon looking much less puffy! ❤️

⚠️ A quick reminder: Never give your pet an over-the-counter allergy medication without first talking with your veterinarian. The appropriate medication and dose depend on your pet’s size, health, and other medications they may be taking. Some human allergy products can contain ingredients that are dangerous for pets.

If your pet develops significant facial swelling, widespread hives, repeated vomiting, difficulty breathing, weakness, collapse, or other concerning symptoms, seek veterinary care immediately. Allergic reactions can sometimes progress rapidly.

When in doubt, give your veterinarian a call! 🐾❤️

⚠️ Graphic Content Warning ⚠️

This sweet pup came to us after suffering a deep laceration to her side from something in her backyard. Accidents like these can happen in an instant, and prompt veterinary care is key to preventing infection and ensuring the best possible healing.

We were able to thoroughly clean and repair her wound, and she did wonderfully throughout the entire procedure. To help prevent fluid buildup and encourage proper healing, a Jackson-Pratt (JP) suction drain was placed. These drains gently remove excess fluid from the surgical site, allowing the tissues to heal more comfortably and reducing the risk of complications.

The good news? She recovered beautifully and is on the road to a full recovery! 💕

We are happy to treat many wound repairs and lacerations here at our clinic. However, if a wound has entered a body cavity (such as the chest or abdomen) or your pet has sustained major trauma, those cases require emergency care. We do not perform major surgical procedures, and those patients should be evaluated immediately by an emergency veterinary hospital.

If your pet suffers a cut or laceration, don’t wait to have it examined. Even wounds that appear small on the surface can be more extensive than they seem.

We’re so happy this brave girl is healing well and back to feeling like herself! ❤️🐾

Sometimes the signs of back pain in dogs are easy to miss. 💙

If your pup is showing any of these symptoms, it may be time for a veterinary visit:
🐾 Reluctance to jump, climb stairs, or play
🐾 Yelping when picked up or touched
🐾 A stiff gait or hunched posture
🐾 Shaking, panting, or restlessness
🐾 Weakness or wobbliness in the back legs

Back pain can have many causes, from muscle strains to spinal conditions, and early treatment can make a big difference in comfort and recovery.

This sweet girl, Maizie, stopped by for an exam, pain management, and lots of TLC. While we were helping her feel more comfortable, we all agreed on one thing—she has the most magnificent sideburns we’ve ever seen! They’re absolutely iconic, and we may have spent just a little extra time admiring them. 😍

We hope she’s back to feeling like herself- sideburns and all! ❤️🐶

Toast, this handsome Collie, came to see us for some GI upset. After an exam, supportive care, and plenty of love from our team, he was on his way to feeling better.

Can we also take a moment to appreciate those absolutely ravishing hair crimps? 😍 We have to admit, we’re a little jealous of Toast’s fabulous locks!

We hope you’re back to feeling like yourself! 🐾💙
