I met Hannah in 2023 when she was grooming at the same company I worked at. I started watching her groom often and it was really intriguing. I love working with dogs so i wanted to give it a try!

I would want to groom a Collie

I have 3 dogs at home. A German shepherd named Kade, boxer named Tank, and a golden retriever named Cujo! It’s a crazy bunch but I love all three of them so much❤️

6. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not grooming?

I love to spend time with my son and family! We love spending our time outside playing or riding our golf cart!

It’s Wednesday!!! So today we get to reintroduce our groomer, Baylee! Baylee is such an asset to Dawg in Suds and we are so grateful that she’s apart of our team. She’s very passionate about her work and it shows through her grooms!

1. Name & how long you’ve been grooming

Baylee! I’ve been grooming for 3 years, or 1,229 days to be exact.

2. How did you get into grooming?

I’ve always wanted to work in a field involving animals. Growing up, I thought I would go into veterinary medicine, but eventually realized it wasn’t really up my alley. That’s when the idea of dog grooming came to me. I set a goal for myself and went for it!

3. Favorite breed to groom

Pretty cliché, but I love a good fancy Poodle cut! I also love my Doodles.

4. If you could groom any dog in the world, what would it be?

I think it would be so cool to groom a Bedlington Terrier in their breed cut. Although I groom Poodles, I think it would also be awesome to do a full Continental trim like the ones we see at grooming shows.

And although it’s not a dog, I think it would be so cool to groom a cow too!

5. Do you have pets of your own? Tell us about them!

I have one, an almost 10-year-old Cavalier/Bichon mix named Dolly. She is a whopping 7 pounds and has A LOT of attitude packed into that little body of hers, mainly in her eyes.

She is my best friend and knows how to give love and receive it. Actually, she mostly demands it, but that’s beside the point.

6. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not grooming?

I love spending time with my family, friends, and fiancé. Although staying home and doing nothing is sometimes my favorite thing, I also love getting out and playing pickleball or tennis. Every now and then I’ll play bingo, and I’m always up for a good board or card game!

When I’m home, one of my favorite things to do is my own nails. I swear I have a second job doing them because, depending on the design, they can take me up to 6 hours, and sometimes I have to split them between two days. It definitely feels like I’m clocking in for a shift sometimes, but it’s a process I genuinely enjoy, especially knowing I can do them myself!

7. What’s one random fun fact about yourself?

I love fireworks, Christmas lights, and honestly any light in the sky. There’s just something about them that is so intriguing to me, and I could watch them forever. I think they’re beautiful in their own way.

I’m also a certified shearaholic. I keep buying different shears because I want to try new things, and just when I think I’ve figured out what I like, I find another one I need to try. I think I’m finally starting to figure out what I actually like, though!

8. What’s your favorite thing about dogs?

Their different personalities! I love that every dog is completely different. Some are crazy and full of energy, some are super sweet and cuddly, and some definitely let you know exactly what they’re thinking. I love getting to know each dog’s personality and figuring out what makes them comfortable and happy.

9. What kind of music do you listen to while grooming?

I actually listen to a lot of different podcasts while I groom! I keep up with true crime, horror/paranormal podcasts, and Reddit stories.

When I do listen to music, I like The Neighbourhood, The Weeknd, Ella Langley, Fall Out Boy, 5 Seconds of Summer, and One Direction. Forever an 1D girl!

10. What do you want every dog to feel when they leave your table?

I want them to feel comfortable and know that they can trust me. Grooming can be scary for a lot of dogs, especially when they’re meeting someone new, so building that trust and bond is really important to me. I love when a dog starts to recognize me, gets excited to see me, or slowly becomes more comfortable with me each time they come in. There’s something really special about building that relationship and knowing they feel safe and happy in my care.

I also believe honesty is the best policy, especially when it comes to someone trusting me with their dog. I want my clients to know that I’ll always be honest with them and do what’s best for their dog, even if it isn’t always what they were hoping to hear.

On Friday, we will introduce Melaina! 🩷

Recently, we got some branding photos taken at Dawgs in Suds! They turned out so cute and i wanted to take a moment and share them with you! I also thought this would be a perfect time to reintroduce ourselves!

First up, we have the owner and groomer, Hannah! Hannah went to the Dog Grooming School of Indiana back in 2014. She took about 8 years off to be a stay at home mom and raise her babies. She got back into grooming in 2022 and it’s been up, ever since. Hannah has two boys at home that are her absolute world. Hannah absolutely loves her job and strives to make Dawgs in Suds a safe and happy experience for every dog & pet parent that walks through our doors.

Here are a few questions we asked her!

1. Name & how long you’ve been grooming

Hannah. I’ve been grooming continuously for 4 years. I went to Groom School back in 2014 though.

2. How did you get into grooming?

Honestly my love for animals. I use to want to be a vet as a little girl. Thought about nursing for a while. But ultimately came back to wanting to work with animals.

3. Favorite breed to groom

When it comes to full grooms, i like grooming poodles & doodles. If they have the curly coat type, and are well maintained at home, they always come out cute. But when it comes to dog personalities, i love grooming a Newfie or a golden retriever. But i also love Dachshunds (Weiner dogs!)

4. If you could groom any dog in the world, what would it be?

Ohhhhh this one is hard! I always wanted to groom an Afghan Hound. But i really love anytime we get a call with a new breed we’ve never had in the shop before!

5. Do you have pets of your own? Tell us about them!

Okay, don’t judge me 🤣 i have 5 pets. My oldest is Cooper. He is a cocker spaniel/ American Bulldog mix. He is 14 years old! He loves playing fetch but with his age, he now loves a good nap. One that turns into an all day nap. 🤣 Then i have Nala. She is a purebred Great Pyrenees who is 8 years old. She loves her people. She very much wants to love and protect. She sleeps outside “her kids” room at nighttime, and she loves putting her nose under your hand to tell you to pet her. I have 2 cats from the same litter, River and Raven. They are 1 year old. River is my sweet, cuddly, loving kitty. Raven is my spicy, loves on her own terms, moody kitty. They are inside/outside cats that love to come home and tell me all about their adventures and love a good bowl of food. And i currently have a rescue kitten, who is 5/6 weeks old. His name is Rocko! My coworker Baylee found him running across the street on a 90 degree day. He had a HORRIBLE eye infection and upper respiratory infection. He’s odd were 50/50 on if he would make it. I’m happy to report, he is healthy! He now has the kitten zoomies and screams for his food at breakfast and dinner like he’s starving again. He had a good little belly growing on him and he has lightened up our lives.

6. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not grooming?

I love being with my kids. Watching them play sports is my favorite. I also love being home. Relaxing, finding a good true crime thriller to watch, cuddled under a blanket, you can’t beat it 🤣

7. What’s one random fun fact about yourself?

Hmmmmm. I have gone to Guatemala twice and helped build houses on missions trips for people in need. I went with my church and it was one of the most rewarding experiences i have ever had in my entire life.

8.What’s your favorite thing about dogs?

Their personalities and the bonds we build. I absolutely love getting a timid dog, who learns to love and trust me. Or i absolutely love when dogs are so excited to see me, they bust out a smile or scream when walking in the door (and yes, some of them scream out with excitement trying to get to us🤣)

9. What kind of music do you listen to while grooming?

I actually normally listen to podcasts in my headphones. Typically true crime or spooky stories. But i do bust out the tunes every once in a while and my playlist is all over the place! Country, rap, Christian, hip hop! You name it, it’s probably on there 🤣

10. What do you want every dog to feel when they leave your table?

This is absolutely the most important question. I want every, single dog that leaves my table to feel their absolute best. Whether it’s a simple bath and a nail trim, a reoccurring, scheduled groom, or an all over shave down! I am here to help your pet and to make them feel and look their best. Their wellbeing, is always at the top of my priority list.

On Wednesday we will introduce our groomer, Baylee! 🩷

Today we remember and we never forget!

I found some stories on the dogs of 9/11 and i wanted to share! Our furry friends are absolutely incredible animals with amazing talents. Here is what i found!

“The dogs of 9/11 are an incredible—and heartbreaking—part of the story of September 11, 2001. 🐕‍🦺❤️

🐾The search-and-rescue dogs

After the attacks on the World Trade Center, hundreds of search-and-rescue dogs were brought to New York. They worked alongside firefighters, police officers, military personnel, and other rescuers.

Their jobs included:

* Searching through the enormous piles of debris for survivors.
* Locating human remains so families could have some form of closure.
* Searching damaged areas that were dangerous or inaccessible to people.
* Working for hours at a time while their handlers monitored them closely.

Some dogs were trained specifically to detect living people, while others were trained to locate human remains.

💔 A heartbreaking misconception

There’s a common story that the dogs became depressed because they couldn’t find survivors.

That’s partly true in spirit, but not quite accurate.

Dogs don’t understand death and disaster the way humans do. Some search dogs became frustrated because they were trained to find living people, but there were very few survivors for them to locate at Ground Zero. Handlers sometimes used games, toys, or people hiding under debris to give the dogs successful “finds” and keep their morale up.

The dogs weren’t simply working themselves to exhaustion without care. Their handlers were extremely protective of them, including checking their paws for cuts and burns and giving them frequent breaks.

🦮 Bretagne — one of the most famous 9/11 dogs

One of the most famous dogs associated with 9/11 was Bretagne (pronounced “Brittany”), a Golden Retriever who worked with her handler Denise Corliss.

Bretagne was 2 years old when she went to Ground Zero. She and Denise searched the site for survivors and later human remains.

What makes her story especially touching is that she continued serving others for years afterward. She became a disaster-response dog and also worked with children learning to read.

Bretagne died in 2016 at age 16, and firefighters gave her a hero’s farewell.

🐕‍🦺 The dogs weren’t only at Ground Zero

There were also therapy dogs.

After 9/11, dogs were brought in to comfort firefighters, police officers, rescue workers, and family members. People who had spent days surrounded by death and destruction could sit with a dog, pet them, and have a moment where they didn’t have to talk about what they’d seen.

For some rescuers, those dogs were one of the few sources of uncomplicated comfort during an unimaginably awful time.

❤️ Something I think is especially beautiful

The dogs didn’t know they were participating in history.

They didn’t understand the World Trade Center, terrorism, or September 11.

They just knew their person was there, they had a job to do, and they were going to stay beside their person.

And thousands of people who were hurting found comfort simply because a dog was willing to sit beside them.

That’s one of the quieter stories of 9/11, but honestly, it’s one of my favorites. 🐾❤️”
