Hello all…as of today, August 11, 2026, the specialty and Reno Kennel Club show are still a go for this coming weekend.

Here is an update on the fire situation in the area. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Dc9yCvoQ7/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Bug and Fred Mountain Fires Evening Update – August 10

Firefighters continue suppression efforts on the Bug Fire, which is approximately 16,680 acres and 3% contained. The fire remains active, with wind-driven runs, flanking and short-range spotting. Critically dry fuels, hot and dry conditions, and afternoon winds continue to support rapid fire spread and extended burning periods.

Crews are continuing fireline construction on the north, east and south sides of the Bug Fire, while structure protection resources assess and protect threatened structures and establish defensible space where conditions allow.

The Fred Mountain Fire, approximately 3,482 acres and 0% contained, is burning about 9 miles north of Lemmon Valley. The fire remains active, with wind-driven runs, flanking and short-range spotting. Fire activity continued into the evening, including significant runs of 3 to 6 miles.

Firefighters are working to check fire spread and establish and secure containment lines on the Fred Mountain Fire as conditions allow. Resources are being shared between the Bug and Fred Mountain fires because of their proximity.

Evacuations and Closures:
Communities near the fires remain threatened by potential fire growth. Fire managers recognize the significant impact evacuation warnings and orders have on residents and are continually evaluating conditions as the fires change. Evacuation recommendations are made by fire managers based on current and expected fire behavior, and evacuation warnings and orders are implemented by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Residents should rely on Perimeter for the most current evacuation information, including changes to evacuation status and repopulation. Because conditions can change quickly, Perimeter will be the most up-to-date source for determining whether an area remains under an evacuation warning or order, or when residents may return home.

For the most current evacuation information:

The evacuation center at Evelyn Mount Community Center, 1013 Valley Road, Reno, remains the official evacuation center. Washoe County Regional Animal Services is accepting small animals at 2825 Longley Lane. The large-animal shelter at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center currently has more than 150 animals. Space and resources are limited, and residents who are able are encouraged to self-evacuate animals to a friend or family member’s home.

Hot, dry and unstable conditions are expected to continue, with poor overnight humidity recovery. W/SW winds and low daytime relative humidity will support critical fire weather conditions each afternoon. W winds of 12–17 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected.

A Southwest Complex Incident Management Team will assume management of the fires Tuesday morning.
