Please don’t touch that baby!
Baby deer are cute and this time of year they are visible, helpless and seemingly abandoned.
This is the peak of fawning season (from May 12th until June 27th). During the first few weeks of life, does only associate with their fawns briefly when nursing (only 2 – 3 times a day). The doe is usually close by but leaves her fawn in a hiding place where it is safe from predators. Because of this limited interaction, people often think the fawns are abandoned. Please leave the fawns alone and give them space. Mom will come back.
