June Fieldstone week 1! A very HOT 🥵 but, a super week all around
✨Taylor and Coolio 28 were champion in the children’s pony hunter AND champion in the schooling ponies
✨Sydney and Cedric were 2nd in the ch hunters classic, and had great ribbons in the division as well
✨Rachel and Cedric ended up Reserve champion ushja 3’ hunters winning one of the o/f
✨Maryanne and Centurion had wonderful trips in the mod adult hunters including 2nd in the u/s
✨Rachel and Centurion were 1st in one of the 2’9 ushja hunters as well as a few other great placings
✨Rachel and This is Me Z played in the .75 jumpers for his first outing. Placing 5th out of a huge class!
✨Emmy and King Kong shipped in for the day and got great ribbons in the 14 & u eq
✨Marlowe and E.I Lexington’s Minuteman also shipped in for the day and were 2nd and 4th in a big 15-17 division
✨Tessa and Coastline had some beautiful trips in the Large pony hunters. Can’t wait to see how far this pair goes this summer!
✨Samantha and Gold Mine started their new partnership in the walk trot getting so many ribbons including 3rd in the championship
✨Maryanne and Numerano GT Z had great ribbons in the low adults and even played in the jumper ring, moving up to the .85’s!
✨Jordan and Numerano GT Z were champion in the OR mod 2’9 adult hunters, winning all 3 over fences
✨Piper and Issu de Comme Ci were killing it in the .85’s. They were 2nd and 3rd on day 1 and 3rd in the .85 classic
✨Jordan and Neverland de Muze were Reserve champion in the 1.0 young jumpers and had some really nice trips in the 1.10 with an unfortunate rail at the last jump in the classic
✨Emma and Passport ended the week reserve champion in the 18-35 adult eq, winning one of the classes and also won a .90 class earlier in the week
✨Allie and CMS Lowkey won the 12-14 flat and put in beautiful trips throughout the week

Last week at May Fieldstone I was one our best spring weeks yet!

Great ribbons in the Childrens hunters, 5th in the $1,000 classic
✨Sydney and Rachel split the USHJA 2'9 division and ended up Reserve Champion with two 2nds, a 3rd and 4th in the under saddle

✨Charbel Kosseifi and Gospel de la Pierre
Reserve Champion in the .95 division
5th in the $500 classic

✨Jordan Sands and Neverland de Muze
Champion in the Open 1.0 jumpers early in the week before moving up to the 1.10
3rd in the 1.10 $1,500 NAL/WIHS Classic for their 2nd class ever in the 1.10

Adriyanna moved up to the 2'6 this week and got great ribbons in the low ch/ad hunters as well as 2nd and 3rd in the .75 Jumpers in the beginning of the week

We couldn't be anymore proud of this group for their first show after a long and freezing cold winter! What a fantastic start to our show year. Looking forward to the next show!!

What tack and equipment is, or isn't, allowed in the hunter ring?

For anyone competing in USEF-recognized Hunter competition, understanding the rules around tack and equipment is essential. The regulations are specific, and the consequences for getting it wrong can range from a judge’s penalty all the way to elimination. Here’s a breakdown of what’s permitted, what’s restricted, and what will get you sent out of the hunter ring.

Bridles and Bits: The Basics
When it comes to bridlework, USEF rules are clear: snaffles, pelhams, or full bridles are required, and all must be fitted with a cavesson noseband. This is a non-negotiable baseline for Hunter competition.

That said, not all snaffles, pelhams, or full bridles are treated equally. Judges have the discretion to penalize, but not eliminate, a horse or pony shown in an unconventional version of an otherwise legal bridle type. Hunter gags and kimberwickes fall into this gray zone. They’re technically snaffle or pelham variants, but unconventional enough to invite scrutiny.

Where things get more serious is with illegal bits and nosebands, which carry mandatory elimination. Three-ring bits, gags (other than the hunter gag), drop nosebands, flash nosebands, and figure-eight nosebands are all explicitly prohibited. A judge has no discretion here. If the equipment is illegal, the horse or pony must be eliminated. This same tack rule applies when horses return to the ring for conformation or soundness evaluations.

Curb chains or straps, when used with any leverage bit, must be constructed of loose links, joints, or lie smooth against the jaw. They must be free of twists, sharp edges, or anything inhumane. Curbs may be wrapped or covered for the horse’s comfort, but may not be used in conjunction with wire, metal, rawhide, metal keepers, or any other material beyond what’s needed to attach the curb to the bit.
