🐾 A Warm Welcome and an Important Update from River Valley Veterinary Clinic! 🐾

Hello, River Valley families! I am thrilled to introduce myself as Dr. Macy, your new small animal veterinarian. I joined the practice just over a month ago, and following the departure of our two previous doctors, I am now the sole veterinarian here. While this is a big transition, I am incredibly excited to be here and am fully committed to providing your beloved pets with dedicated, consistent, and personalized care.

Because I am "taking over" the practice, I want to share how we are handling your pet's ongoing care, medical records, and prescription refills during this transition period.

Seamless Care for Existing Patients
- Honoring previous timelines: If your pet had an in-person exam with one of our previous veterinarians within the last 12 months, we will fully honor that timeline.
- No immediate refill disruptions: You do not need to rush in for a new exam just to get your current medications; your existing prescription approvals remain valid until they hit their normal 1-year expiration mark.
- Transition window: This policy ensures a smooth, stress-free transition for you and your furry family members over the coming year.

Establishing Our Relationship Moving Forward
- Your pet's next annual checkup: When your pet is naturally due for their yearly wellness visit, that exam will officially establish their new, direct Veterinary Client Patient Relationship (VCPR) with me.
- New health concerns: If your pet develops a brand new illness, injury, or symptom before their annual is due, I will need to see them in person to diagnose the issue and safely prescribe new treatments.
- New clients: If you are completely new to River Valley, we must schedule an initial in-person exam to establish our relationship before we can fill any medications or diagnose conditions.

I have absolutely loved meeting so many of you over the past month, and I am so excited to protect and care for your furry family members moving forward. Thank you all for your incredible patience, trust, and warm welcome during this transition!

Hi friends!

I’m Dr. Macy Leponiemi – a small animal veterinarian, wannabe hobby farmer, and bird enthusiast! I grew up in Baraboo, WI, but recently bought my little dream ranch (tentatively named ā€œPride Rockā€) in Rock Springs with my partner-in-crime, Nala (9 year old Goldendoodle).

Since graduating from UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2017, I have worked in both shelter medicine and private practice. With my background in shelter medicine, spay and neuter surgeries are kind of my jam, but equally important to me is preventative medicine. Focusing on primary care allows me to develop profound relationships with both my clients and patients, which is truly what drew me into this field to begin with. The human-animal bond is unlike any other, and I am very passionate about doing everything in my power to maintain, if not strengthen, it in any way that I can.

I am absolutely ecstatic about becoming a part of the River Valley Veterinary Clinic team and look forward to becoming part of the Reedsburg community! As a wannabe hobby farmer with an 8-year-old Quarter Horse named Goose and companion miniature donkey named Erik, I always have stories to tell and can’t wait to hear some of yours!

Yours Truly,
Dr. Macy

To Our Valued Clients,

We are thrilled to announce that Macy Leponiemi, DVM, will be joining our team as our small animal veterinarian at River Valley Veterinary Clinic starting on June 15, 2026!

With the addition of Dr. Macy, we are excited to continue to keep our Reedsburg building doors open and to continue to provide the exceptional, compassionate care your pets deserve, along with having Large Animal medication access available.

We will still continue to provide routine annual exams, vaccinations, or a specific medical concern checkup. So feel free and give us a call to schedule your furry friend’s appointments! 608-524-4764.

Dr. Matt is still retiring and Dr. Erin will still be heading to Dells Animal Hospital.

Thank you for your continued trust in us. We can't wait for you to meet the newest member of our team!

Warmly,

River Valley Veterinary Clinic

To all of our small animal clients,

It is with mixed emotions that I, Dr. Matt McGlynn, will be retiring from River Valley Veterinary Clinic effective June 30, 2026. It has been a great honor & privilege to serve you and your pets, and the relationships that I have built with all of you over the past 33 years will remain a part of me.

We have been actively seeking a replacement small animal veterinarian since 2025. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find one & our small animal clinic cannot sustain itself as a one-doctor practice. As a result, the small animal portion of the River Valley Veterinary Clinic will be closing on June 30, 2026.

Dr. Erin Murphy has taken a position at Dells Animal Hospital in Wisconsin Dells. Her final day at RVVC will be June 18, 2026. If you would like to continue care with Dr. Erin Murphy after that date you are welcome to contact Dells Animal Hospital to schedule an appointment.

The River Valley Veterinary Clinic large animal practice will be unaffected by this change. Our large animal vets are also exploring the possibility of offering small animal services at the clinic in Plain, WI. We will keep you informed as the situation develops.

In order to make this transition as seamless as possible we are happy to send a digital copy of your pet’s records to you or the veterinary practice of your choosing. Please contact us via email at [email protected] or phone at (608) 524-4764.

Thank you all,
Dr. Matthew McGlynn

When the daughter of one of our clients approached me and asked if I would come speak with the Sauk County 4H Dog Project, I immediately said YES!

This week I joined Emma as she presented her leadership project on canine first aid. Her dog Max was the star of the show & helped us demonstrate bandaging techniques & safe patient restraint. Kids were able to ask questions, learn about the most common dog injuries, and build their own dog first aid kits to bring home. It was a blast!

P.S. If you’re curious about Emma’s project she’ll be displaying it at the Sauk County Fair in July.

Poor pup got a marrow bone stuck on her lower jaw this morning! Thankfully, we were able to remove it after giving her some light sedation and she’s doing great.

We see cases like this more often than you think! Occasionally, the dog’s muzzle swells and we have to use a bone saw to cut the bone into pieces 😬. My recommendation: avoid this style of bone altogether.
