There are few things ranchers appreciate more than a good rain.

Today, we’re celebrating every drop.

After watching the skies and hoping for moisture, seeing the rain finally fall is a blessing. It means greener pastures, healthier livestock, and renewed hope for the months ahead. Out here, rain isn’t just weather…it’s life.

We’re grateful for God’s provision, thankful for the beauty of this land, and reminded once again that some of the best things are completely beyond our control.

Today, we’ll gladly trade sunshine for rain clouds.

What a beautiful day to be a rancher in Montana! 🌧️💚

Some horses leave hoofprints so deep on your heart that they can never be replaced.

Today we had to say goodbye to our beloved mare, #8.

After losing her foal and battling a rapidly moving infection, the hardest decision had to be made. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve ranched or how many hard things you’ve faced…some losses still bring you to your knees.

#8 blessed us with a beautiful half draft foal every single year. She was dependable, kind, tough, and the kind of mare every ranch hopes to have. She had been with us since the very beginning. Through the years she helped build our program and carried a piece of our dreams with her.

She wore a number 8 brand on her right hind quarter…but #8 was more than a number to me.

She was family. Speaking of that, we bought her and her sister from my parents. We lost my dad last November…so losing her today is even harder for me.

We are thankful to still have two of her offspring with us, and that brings us comfort during this heartbreaking loss. A piece of her will continue on here at our ranch for years to come.

We are going to miss her more than words can say.

Run free, sweet girl. Thank you for everything.🥹🫶🏼

Today we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend…it is a reminder of the sacrifice, courage, and selflessness of those who served this country with honor.

Here at Lazy Six Nine Ranch, we are deeply grateful for the freedoms we enjoy and the heroes who made them possible. We remember the fallen, pray for their families, and honor the legacy they left behind.

May we never forget that freedom comes at a cost.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

A huge thank you to everyone who shared ideas for our foal naming theme this year! We loved reading all of your suggestions and truly appreciate everyone who took the time to join in the fun.

In honor of America’s 250th birthday, we’ve decided to go with a patriotic theme for this year’s draft and draft cross babies. Our registered Percheron stud, Chek, shows off this theme well in the photo.🐴🇺🇸

We are beyond excited as foaling season is right around the corner and our first little ones should begin arriving in the next couple of weeks. There’s nothing we love more than watching these special babies enter the world and grow here at Lazy Six Nine Ranch.

Thank you all so much for your continued support, encouragement, and love for our program. We appreciate you more than you know! ❤️🤍💙

We need your help!

Our draft cross foals will begin arriving in the next couple of weeks. Every year we choose a theme that we use for naming all of our babies.

It’s fun, but it also helps us remember the year later on and it keeps us on theme while naming each one.

Last year our theme was Beverages. Our theme in 2024 was Country Music Singers. Before that we did Montana Town Names…and before that Top Gun.

We always love the ideas that come our way and appreciate your suggestions. Plus we will throw everyone’s names who make a suggestion into a hat for a random Lazy Six Nine Ranch ball cap giveaway!

So, what should our theme be this year?

“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” ❤️

Out here on the ranch, we understand strength. We see it in early mornings, tired hands, long days, and the quiet sacrifices made without recognition.

Mothers are the heart of it all.

They raise strong children, hold families together, teach grit, kindness, respect, and faith. They love fiercely, give endlessly, and somehow always find the strength to keep going even when life gets hard.

The lessons learned from a good mama stay with us forever…whether it’s around the kitchen table, in the saddle, or under a wide Montana sky.

Today we honor the women who nurture, protect, guide, and shape the next generation. Your influence reaches farther than you will ever know.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms out there!

Another pretty blue roan girl headed to her new home in Nebraska!

She is half Gypsy Vanner and half Quarter Horse. She is joining several other colts her new owners have purchased from us over the past couple of years.

One of the biggest compliments we can receive is repeat business. It lets us know that we are doing things right and that others appreciate the draft cross horses we are offering too.

I just saw the girl’s mama and her baby belly is getting BIG! We begin foaling around the 1st of June. We can’t wait to show off the new babies as they begin arriving!
