📺🐾 NINE LIVES ON ABC!

A huge thank you to ABC7 for visiting Nine Lives and shining a spotlight on the lifesaving work happening here every day! 💛

We were especially proud to see Dr. Ramirez and our incredible surgical team featured.

Under Dr. Ramirez’s surgical leadership, we’ve expanded our capacity through Double Doctor Days — allowing us to perform up to 100 low-cost spay/neuter surgeries in a single day.

And the impact is incredible:

🐾 6,500+ surgeries already performed in 2026
🐾 Up to 100 surgeries a day
🐾 On track for 10,000 surgeries by year-end

Nine Lives is a grassroots, independently funded nonprofit with no municipal funding. We’ve grown because the need for affordable spay/neuter is enormous — and with the support of our community, we’re stepping up to meet it.

We are incredibly proud to be leaders in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter and to show what a community-powered nonprofit can accomplish. 💪🐱

We did it, Bay Area! Yesterday, we officially celebrated our 1,000th adoption of 2026!

Meet the incredible lucky #1000 and his proud new human, adopting the sweet Milan! 🐱❤️

Moving into our new Redwood City campus less than six months ago was all about expanding our capacity to save lives, and this massive milestone proves what’s possible when a community comes together.

While we’re taking a moment to celebrate Milan and his new family, Dr. Liu said it best: “We’ll turn around, look at that empty condo, and ask, ‘Who can we save next?’”

Every adoption creates space for the next kitten or cat in need. Thank you to our adopters, fosters, donors, and team for making 1,000 second chances possible this year!

🎒📚 BACK TO SCHOOL… BACK TO PURR! 🐱✏️

Summer camp is officially over at Nine Lives, and our littlest campers are ready for their next big adventure: graduating into forever homes! 🎓🐾

This summer, we welcomed hundreds of orphaned kittens from shelters and communities across Northern California. They arrived tiny, vulnerable, and in need of somewhere safe to grow up. After weeks of foster homes, medical care, playtime, socialization, and LOTS of snacks, many have officially passed their final exams. ❤️

Now there’s just one assignment left…

And what better way to celebrate going back to school than by bringing home a new study buddy? Whether they're attacking your pencils, sitting directly on your laptop, supervising homework, or reminding you that every study break should include kitten cuddles, we have an entire class of adorable overachievers waiting to meet you.

From Injured to Inspiring! 🐾✨

Before landing with our team, little Garnet survived a scary incident at a former shelter where his left leg got pinned in a door. The resulting nerve injury made it impossible for him to flex his wrist or bear weight properly on that side.

Luckily, our medical exam revealed that the underlying nerve pathways were still responsive—meaning his brain just needed to be re-taught how to speak to his paw!

Right now, our staff is guiding him through targeted mobility drills every single day. By turning toe flexes and leg stretches into fun playtime, we're helping his nervous system rebuild those lost connections step by step.

🧡 Garnet is still focused on his recovery and isn’t open for adoption just yet. Providing this level of hands-on physical therapy takes serious time, patience, and medical resources. Two tiny fighters, one big journey ahead! 🍞🥝

When Chicken in a Biskit first came into our care, he was in really rough shape. At just 6 weeks old, he was struggling with severe eye infections, swollen eyelids, dehydration, and a massive flea infestation. He has been such a brave boy through his daily eye drops, medications, and fluid treatments. While he isn’t 100% fully healed quite yet, his eyes are open, his energy is up, and he has made incredible progress!

Swipe through to see his glow-up, along with a look at sweet Kiwi! Kiwi has her own amazing survival story—she came to us completely blind and needed surgery for a facial abscess. Despite everything she’s been through, she is completely fearless and navigates her world with so much confidence.

Because both of these little ones have overcome so much, we are currently trying out a fun new experiment: seeing if Chicken in a Biskit can become Kiwi’s official "support kitten" and foster buddy! Since Chicken knows what it’s like to almost lose his sight and Kiwi lives without it, we’re hoping they can lean on each other, gain confidence, and maybe even form a special bond.

This sweet boy had a rough start when he arrived with a severe eye infection. Thanks to his incredible foster parent and our dedicated clinic team, he is feeling so much better! He can't see out of his right eye, but he doesn't let that stop him from playing, snacking, and hanging out with his buddy Sulley.

WE MADE ROOM — AND YOU HELPED US FILL IT WITH MORE LIVES TO SAVE!

What an incredible Clear the Shelters weekend! 87 cats and kittens found loving homes at Nine Lives!

But here’s what 87 adoptions really means.

Every adoption opens a space. Every open space gives us the ability to say YES to another cat or kitten who needs us.

And we did exactly that.

After almost clearing our shelter last weekend, we made room to rescue 60 NEW cats and kittens this week — coming to Nine Lives from high-risk, overcrowded, and vulnerable situations.

You made that possible.

By adopting, sharing our posts, supporting our work, and showing up for Nine Lives, you gave us the ability to turn around and save even more lives.

And now? We need to do it all over again!

Our rooms are filling up with some seriously adorable new faces, and every one of them needs a home. Come adopt one of these babies — and you'll make room for the next life waiting for us to say YES.
