Meet π Reggie π she needed her nails done, so are she ran around, played with the other dogs and was relaxed we trimmed her nails. She has all black nails which can be intimidating for anyone to trim. But she did great. I only hand clipped and next time I would hand trim and then Dremel to remove any roughness.
How do we get our dogs acclimated to nail time? Start as soon and as young as possible. If you bought a puppy, the breeder should have already been trimming nails and handling feet. If you adopted, when you're cuddling on the couch, just hold their paws, gently wiggle a toe, hold each nail like you would if you had your clippers. Struggling still? Then do one nail a day for awhile with lots of praise and cookies when you did 1!! One is better than none! If it's not in your wheelhouse, hire a pro groomer nail trims are a very inexpensive yet VITAL part of care. Long nails are a hazard for all dogs, they hook on carpet, slide on hardwood or tile, distort joint and ligament structure. So a simple monthly chore can have benefits WAY down the road! If you do anything extra for your pet, trim nails this month! They will benefit more than you can see π
