This is such a hard but important discussion to have. Some of you may remember last year I had to let my mustang Bishop go. He broke his coffin bone in February and although we tried to rehab it, he ultimately was still quite lame several months later on a full tab of equioxx. Letting him go was certainly not the call that I wanted to make but it was the right one. I believe we have the responsibility to advocate for every horse that comes into our care. They cannot speak, so it’s up to us to be a good steward. The long and short of it is that it’s not fair for them to live a life in pain. Even though it’s hard to lose them, it’s the most compassionate option in the end.
