Happy Sunday!! Today is the start of Veterinary Technician Week.
While Veterinarians are the masterminds of the clinic, our veterinary technicians can be considered the beating heart of our clinic.
Why our Vet Techs are the superheroes!
🐾
Ever wonder who is running the lab work, monitoring anesthesia, taking x-rays, cleaning your pets teeth, drawing blood, catching urine, trimming nails, coaching pet parents, cleaning up at the end of the day, placing IV catheters and giving your pet extra snuggles before and after a procedure????
From the moment your pet walks through the door to the time they head home, our techs are:
• a voice for your pet: Closely observing, interpreting needs, and communicating to the veterinarian.
• Anesthesia & safety monitors: Keeping a strict eye on vitals so doctors can focus on surgery.
• Your pet's comforter: Administering medications, drawing blood, and offering a calm, reassuring touch.
• Your guide: Helping you understand treatment plans, recovery care, and medication instructions.
They do it all with a massive amount of heart, skill, and patience.
Starting July 1 2026 MN state law added title protection for the use of the name “technician”- credentialed technicians became Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT), but the reality on the treatment floor hasn't changed:
The paper changed, the passion didn't:
Whether you wear the LVT badge or work side-by-side as an essential veterinary assistant, your hands hold the same wiggly puppies, monitor the same anesthesia, and calm the same scared cats.
So, yes—legally and officially, we are stepping into the era of the LVT.
Culturally and operationally?
In the back room, holding off a vein or scrubbing for surgery, we are still ALL technicians.
Each day this week we will be introducing our crew of technicians, stay tuned!!
Next time you’re in the clinic, be sure to give a big wave and thank you to our amazing vet tech team!
