Litter Update!

Milton x Valery
Silver Fox litter
DOB: March 13, 2026

There are only 3 kits in this litter that I really like the looks of. These are the three that I am offering up. They are fully pedigreed. MV2 is already spoken for.

MV1 - Lilac
MV2 - Lilac *not pictured*
MV3 - Chocolate (tried taking pics, but she moved every timešŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø)

ā€Œ

The rest of this litter, in my opinion, are culls. There is one of the culls that I will continue to keep my eye on, just for learning purposes. I want to see if he will grow out the way I’m thinking he will.

Goat Adventures, Part 19: Baby Goat Update

Well, we just have the one kid for this season. Strawberry never did end up having any babies. But we aren’t really surprised. We had been questioning if she was truly pregnant all along. To be completely honest, I’m not terribly disappointed… It is our plan to do extended lactations with our does, so having them staggered on when they give birth (one per year) really works out to our benefit. Strawberry will be bred this fall for a spring 2027 kidding.

Peaches is doing great with her little buckling. He is getting plenty to eat - in fact, his mother is producing more than he can handle, and I’ve had to milk her almost every day to relieve some pressure. I get, on average, a pint - that’s with leaving enough for baby boy. I’m impressed! Now, to start enjoying the creamy goodness of fresh milk!

How We Practice Intentional Homesteading

Here at Sunrise Inspiration, we understand the need for being intentional with our time and how time management can help us keep everything in it’s proper place - and keep us from losing our sanity. We practice these principles by asking ourselves two simple questions:

1.) What is Priority?
We ask this about the homestead and about our life outside of the homestead. Knowing what is most important in our lives in any given season helps us to know what our actions need to be. We can then adjust goals and plans to fit what is priority. If a project we want to do doesn’t fit into what is important in that season, we lay it aside. Once the priority is met, and if there is time left over, then we can return to that project and re-evaluate if it makes sense to do it in that season.

2.) Will adding on, or to, take away from what I already have?
This question makes one stop and think about how much time is really available in their life. You have responsibilities and duties to care for, and these are things that can't be neglecting. Ideas and projects should not take time away from these duties.

For example: Say you have chickens. You’ve just got everything set up and running, and now you want to add another animal to the homestead. This is where you need to pause and ask yourself ā€œCan I properly learn about and manage my chicken flock if I bring in another animal?ā€ If you have doubts, don’t do it. Wait. That other animal will still be an option 6 months or 1 year from now.

This is how you aviod burn out. How you gain clarity. How you move forward with your goals faster than if you tried doing everything at once. It isn’t a race. Take it one step at a time. One animal at a time. One plant at a time. Learn to care for that one plant or animal well before venturing out to get and learn about a new one. You’ll thank yourself later…

Intentional Homesteading

Being intentional with our time is a part of time management. Both are important when you are building and maintaining a homestead. One has to be intentional about how much they take on. It can't all be done at once.

Believe me, I know how hard it is to stay intentional with your time and only take on what you comfortably can. It can feel like we aren’t working hard enough if we’re not pushing hard every day to get tasks done. But the truth is, this isn’t really the way to build a slower, calmer way of living. Knowing your limits and being willing to stand up for them, isn’t a weakness. It’s smart. It’s the right way to manage your time to save your sanity!

Goat Adventures, Part 18: A New Arrival

A little before 9pm last night, a new life was born! A bouncing baby boy! Peaches did a good job, and she's going to be a wonderful mother!

Strawberry still hasn't delivered. I'm beginning to wonder if there's anything actually in there... Time will tell. Today is 153, so we should know for sure before too long.

Silver Fox litter

These kits are 8 weeks old! The time sure flies!

Over this next week, I will be doing a lot with these guys. Now that they are 8 weeks old, it is time to look them over good and see who makes the cut. I have already made my first quick evaluation and have a couple that I don't like the looks of. I will be separating this litter out into two grow out pens as I make my final decision - one for those that make the cut and 1 for those that don't.

Once my final decision is made, I will post the ones with the best type. So stay tuned!

A homestead is a very busy place. There's always something going on - babies being born, matings be planned, gardens to plant and w**d, special projects for new plans and ideas; the list goes on. In short, a homesteaders work is never done.

That is why it is so easy to become overwhelmed and burnt out as a homesteader. It can often feel like we are running in circles like a hamster on a hamster wheel. There's no end to the work, to the ideas. But THERE IS an end to how much a person can manage. We have to admit our limits and make choices to support our well-being.

This is why time management on a homestead is sooo important. We have to be able to sort out each day's tasks so that we know which ones are most important. Time management saves our sanity.

This is your friendly reminder that you’re not alone in feeling overwhelmed or burnt out. A lot of us have either been there or are there now. But that’s not the way things have to be. You can create a simpler, slower life!
