I was walking down to Room 6 at the emergency vet when I glanced through the window. A woman was speaking with the vet tech, and when she saw me, she immediately lit up because she knew I would help this little kitten.

I looked down and there she was, a tiny tabby kitten, running around the room.

She was blind.

She was so small and vulnerable, and yet she was still trying to navigate the world around her.

The vet tech carefully scooped her up and took her back for an evaluation. I was also able to meet the wonderful person who had brought her in, someone who spends so much of her time helping people and families throughout our city. One of the families she had been helping had found this little kitten in their backyard.

Someone saw her.
Someone cared.
And because of that, she had a chance.

Her name is Hope. ❤️

The veterinarian kept her overnight, gave her fluids, and monitored her. When I called the next morning, I was so relieved to hear that she was ready for discharge but would need to follow-up for surgery to have her one eye removed. Although one eye was not functioning, her other eye was viable. ❤️

Hope was going home with eye medication, antibiotics, and pain medication. She still has a long road ahead, but she has a chance and sometimes, that's all we need to keep fighting.

Meanwhile, Frankie, who had come in the night before was urinating blood. The vet explained that it was likely a result of the blunt-force trauma from his accident and should hopefully resolve within a day or two.

Another emergency.
Another cat who desperately needed us. It feels like we barely get one emergency under control before another one comes through the door.
They just need someone to care enough to help.

And we desperately need your help to keep doing that.

She was driving down the road when she saw something in the street. She made sure not to hit it, but as she passed, she saw it move.
It was a kitten.

She pulled over. A large truck was coming down the road. She ran back and scooped him up just in time.

She rushed him to the emergency vet, where this terrified little boy wedged himself between the seats and had to be carefully removed by staff.

They rushed him back and the vet called us. We said YES to X-rays, bloodwork, and treatment. We named him Frankie, because he was found on Franklin Street.

Somehow, after being tossed around in the middle of the road, nothing was broken. He was able to leave the emergency vet later that evening.

Frankie survived because someone stopped.

Someone turned around.

Someone cared enough to save him.

❤️ Now Frankie needs YOU.

A Promise Made to Sabrina… A Promise We Kept. 💗

Little Sabrina was just a tiny kitten when she was found with a severely injured leg. Her finder saw how much pain she was in and made her a promise... they would help her. And they did. They never gave up on her.

In early July, her finder reached out to Berks Cats in Crisis, and we immediately stepped in to get Sabrina the veterinary care she desperately needed. At first, the vet believed her leg could be saved. So, for weeks, Sabrina endured bandage changes, treatments, medications, and antibiotics as everyone worked together to give her every possible chance.

But despite all of that care, Sabrina remained in pain and continued to struggle to use her injured leg. After weeks of trying, her veterinarian made the difficult decision that the kindest thing for Sabrina was to amputate her leg.

And this past week, that is exactly what happened.

Sabrina had her surgery and is now recovering. She is such a sweet little girl, and we cannot wait to see her feeling like herself again enjoying the kitten life she deserves. 🐱💕

Her finder stood beside her every step of the way, keeping the promise they made when they first found this tiny, hurting kitten. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to Sabrina.

We made a promise to help her, and we didn’t give up.

🐾 Meet Pigeon 🐾

Pigeon’s story started when she appeared at a colony where she was being cared for by a kind friend. When the usual caregivers were away, her finder noticed that this little kitten wasn’t doing well and knew she needed help.

We didn’t want to take any chances, especially with Pigeon’s pale gums, so she was rushed to BluePearl for an evaluation. Thankfully, there was nothing requiring emergency intervention, but it was clear this little girl had some challenges ahead. She had an upper respiratory infection, was covered in fleas, and has an issue with one of her legs that will require an orthopedic evaluation.

As we continue getting to know Pigeon, we have also noticed some unusual features, including her very small, differently colored eyes. There are still questions to be answered, and we are taking things one step at a time to make sure we understand all of her needs.

The most important thing is that Pigeon is now safe. ❤️

We are so grateful that Kitty Salvation stepped up for placement and will be fostering Pigeon, giving her a warm, loving place to rest and receice treatment. BCIC will be providing her medical care throughout her journey.

And Pigeon is certainly making herself at home! She is being completely spoiled in foster care and has even found a little kindred spirit—a cat in the home with a similar arm dysfunction. It’s almost as if Pigeon found her own little “mini-me.” 🥹

There is still much to learn about this sweet girl, and her medical journey is just beginning. But she has already gone from a vulnerable kitten at a colony to a loved and cared-for little girl with a team behind her.

The calls continue, but this one was so different.

When we first heard about this cat, we knew he needed help. He was lethargic and had injuries to his shoulder. But what stood out to us most wasn’t just the condition he was in, it was the person who brought him through the doors.

She is only 19 years old. She lives in the city, doesn’t drive, and had never even stepped foot inside a veterinary office before.

But she saw an injured cat suffering in the alley behind her apartment, and she knew she couldn’t just walk away.

She called a Lyft, crying the entire way to Blue Pearl, because she knew it was the best chance this cat had. When she arrived, she didn’t know what would happen next. She just knew she had to try.

The cat was taken back to be examined, and BluePearl contacted us to help. He needed fluids, medications for his injuries, and his wounds needed to be cleaned and treated.

She gave him a name Milo.
Milo needs time to heal. He also needs to be neutered. The amazing young woman who rescued him was able to foster him, but she had absolutely nothing for him.

So that’s when we became the B.C.I.C. Uber. 🚕

We picked up this incredible young woman and Milo and took them home with a car full of supplies and goodies for him. We also made a stop at PetSmart to get Milo a special soft cone that wouldn’t further irritate his injury.

Milo is still healing in the care of the kind person who refused to leave him suffering alone. He is scheduled for his neuter surgery next week, and we’re hopeful that with time, care, and love, this sweet boy will make a full recovery.

When the phone rings and I see that it’s the emergency vet, I always hold my breath before answering. Because on the other end of that call is usually a life in crisis—an animal who is scared, hurting, and waiting for someone to say, “Yes, we will help.” ❤️

This time, that little life was a 14-week-old kitten with a ruptured eye. She was tiny, vulnerable, and in desperate need of medical care. The emergency team worked to stabilize her that first night, and we knew we had to give this little girl every chance we could.

She needed time to gain strength before surgery, so we waited, treated her with antibiotics, and hoped for the best. Thankfully, the antibiotics did their job, she became strong enough for surgery, and she made it through. 🐾

Her name is Potpie. And this sweet little girl is now on the other side of the hardest part of her journey. Here she is just after having her sutures removed, continuing to heal and recover with the family that found her. Looking at her now, it’s hard to imagine just how uncertain things were when that phone call came in.

Cases like Potpie are exactly why we do what we do. But emergency hospitalization, medications, surgery, and ongoing care come at a cost and Potpie’s care has made a big dent in our rescue funds.
