While driving along 724 near Scoupe Dville, someone spotted something on the side of the road. They stopped to look and there, lying helplessly on the ground, was a tiny kitten waiting for someone to notice her. When they picked her up, her little leg was dangling.

They knew she needed help immediately and rushed her to BluePearl. The veterinary team evaluated this tiny girl and contacted us at BCIC for support, because the kitten needed more care and testing than her rescuers could provide alone.

Her bloodwork thankfully came back negative for both FIV and leukemia. Her X-rays showed no broken bones, leading the veterinarians to believe the injury is neurological. Sadly, the damage to her leg is so severe that it will need to be amputated. The kitten was also running a fever and had blood in her urine, likely from blunt-force trauma. The hope is that those symptoms will resolve over the next few days as she heals.

For now, this little fighter is resting comfortably while her medications help manage her pain and fight infection. She is awaiting surgical consultation.

We named her Coraline. 💗

It’s not every day we receive a call from the police.

This time, officers were responding to a call about a cat who had reportedly been thrown from a car. When they arrived, they found the cat still there. As it turns out, the people in the car were actually trying to get him to safety, but he was terrified and kept darting underneath the car and into the roadway.

Worried that he would be hit, the officer carefully removed him from the road and brought him to safety.

That’s where we came in… and honestly, we could not believe how sweet this boy is.

The moment I picked him up, he started making biscuits in the air. 🥹 It was as if he knew he was finally safe.

We named him Oakley.

Oakley has now been neutered, fully vetted, and is ready for the next chapter of his life, one where he never has to wonder where his next meal is coming from or where he will sleep at night.

He is incredibly sweet and affectionate with people. He is very neat with his litter box and is extremely grateful for every meal placed in front of him. 🥰

Right now, Oakley isn’t a fan of other cats or dogs. But honestly… who can blame him? He’s been surviving alone on the streets, and he deserves time, patience, and a safe place to decompress and learn what it means to be loved.

When the vet started explaining the details of this tiny kitten, my heart sank.

She was part of an abandoned litter that had been brought into the emergency vet. Sadly, the other kittens had already declined rapidly. They were struggling so badly that, heartbreakingly, they had to be euthanized. 💔

But this little 4-week-old girl was still fighting.

The vet told me they were hopeful she could survive, but she had a very long road ahead. She was severely dehydrated, emaciated, and suffering from a URI. She was incredibly fragile and weak.

When I picked her up from the vet, she felt so tiny and delicate in my hands. For the first 24 hours, I syringe-fed her, keeping her on heat to bring up her body temp and praying that she would find the strength to keep fighting.

And then this morning… I woke up to the sweetest little meows. 🥹 There she was sitting upright, looking at me with the most beautiful baby-blue eyes. And then she ate food from a dish all by herself! Thank You, Jesus!🙏💙

My prayers were answered. She is gaining strength. She is responding to her medications and care.

I was walking down to Room 6 at the emergency vet when I glanced through the window. A woman was speaking with the vet tech, and when she saw me, she immediately lit up because she knew I would help this little kitten.

I looked down and there she was, a tiny tabby kitten, running around the room.

She was blind.

She was so small and vulnerable, and yet she was still trying to navigate the world around her.

The vet tech carefully scooped her up and took her back for an evaluation. I was also able to meet the wonderful person who had brought her in, someone who spends so much of her time helping people and families throughout our city. One of the families she had been helping had found this little kitten in their backyard.

Someone saw her.
Someone cared.
And because of that, she had a chance.

Her name is Hope. ❤️

The veterinarian kept her overnight, gave her fluids, and monitored her. When I called the next morning, I was so relieved to hear that she was ready for discharge but would need to follow-up for surgery to have her one eye removed. Although one eye was not functioning, her other eye was viable. ❤️

Hope was going home with eye medication, antibiotics, and pain medication. She still has a long road ahead, but she has a chance and sometimes, that's all we need to keep fighting.

Meanwhile, Frankie, who had come in the night before was urinating blood. The vet explained that it was likely a result of the blunt-force trauma from his accident and should hopefully resolve within a day or two.

Another emergency.
Another cat who desperately needed us. It feels like we barely get one emergency under control before another one comes through the door.
They just need someone to care enough to help.
