Save this incase you need it some day.

There’s something we use in vet med called a quality of life scale.

It’s not about giving up. It’s about making sure they’re still living, not just existing. You need to use your best judgment and guide the clients to the right choice. This is how they come to be at peace with their decision: you walk them through it.

Ask these 5 things about your pet or your client's pet:

1. Are they eating and drinking normally?
(or only because you’re pushing it)
2. Can they get up, walk, and move without struggling?
3. Are they still interested in things they used to love?
(toys, food, people, going outside)
****4. Are they having more good days than bad days?*****
5. Do they seem comfortable… or are they in pain more often than not?

If you’re answering “no” to most of these…
it might be time to have a conversation with your vet.

Not because you’re giving up.
Because you’re advocating for them.

And that’s the hardest, most loving part of being their person.

This is one of the hardest decisions anyone ever has to make. You can help:

Time to update that leptospira vaccs!

Spring is here! And with that comes a warning about Leptospirosis, a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria.

All dogs are at risk of leptospirosis, regardless of age, breed, lifestyle, geographic location, time of year, and other factors. The following situations can increase that risk:

➡Exposure to or drinking from slow-moving or stagnant water sources, like ponds, rivers, lakes, or streams
➡ Roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife or farm animals or urine-contaminated water sources)
➡ Exposure to wild animals (especially rodents) or farm animals, even if in the backyard
➡ Contact with other dogs (such as in urban areas, dog parks, or boarding or training facilities)

good advice!

As wintry weather settles in, it brings risks for pets as well as people. Pet owners can take steps to keep their animals warm and safe, including learning about the dangers of extreme temperatures, buying weather-resistant accessories, and stocking up on extra supplies in case of power outages or storms.

“The best time to prepare for weather is before you have that weather,” said Dr. Michael Bailey, president of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). “The same thing you would do for children in your house, do for your pet.”

That means understanding the signs of hypothermia and frostbite, avoiding antifreeze and de-icing chemicals, and taking steps to mitigate the effects of snow, rain, wind and ice. Read more from AP: https://bit.ly/4pSRDpt
