💧🐾 July is Pet Hydration Awareness Month! 🐾💧
With these hot summer temperatures, keeping your pets hydrated is more important than ever. Just like us, dogs and cats can become dehydrated quickly, and heat-related illnesses can become life-threatening in a short amount of time.
Here are a few ways to help keep your furry family members safe:
💦 Make sure they always have access to fresh, clean water.
🌳 Provide plenty of shade if they’re spending time outdoors.
🚶♀️ Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.
🏖️ Bring water along on walks, hikes, and trips to the park.
⚠️ Signs of dehydration and heat stress include:
• Excessive panting
• Thick or sticky saliva
• Dry gums
• Lethargy or weakness
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Sunken eyes
• Collapse or difficulty standing
If your pet is showing signs of overheating, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, and contact your veterinarian immediately. Heatstroke is a medical emergency and can become fatal if not treated promptly.
