Can you help? This beautiful soul was rescued yesterday, taken to the dog warden and then transferred to our shelter so that she could receive immediate medical care.
Not only is her life at risk in this condition, but it also became clear quickly she may need emergency surgery.
After a few people who fed her said she threw up, and her continued vomiting with small meals after we took her in, we got worried about an obstruction.
Out of desperation, dogs who are starving often eat trash, rocks, and anything that might be food. Sadly, this is the case for her. We rushed her to the Vet Center of Hudson and then to VCA she could get round-the clock care and surgery.
Surgery went well and she is recovering.
Surgery revealed wrappers, plastic and pieces of paper. All three things were found in her stomach.
Imagine being so hungry that you eat things that aren't food!!

Her medical bill will be thousands of dollars. She is worth it. She is lucky that people found her and took action.

☀️ A little bit of sunshine on this rainy day! ☀️

Puppy may not be able to control the weather, but she sure knows how to find her own sunshine! 💛 This sweet girl loves to soak up the warm rays, stretch out, and enjoy a good sunbathing session. 🥰

Puppy would prefer to be the only animal in the home so she can soak up all the rays—and all the love! She’s ready to be your one-and-only companion and bask in all the attention she deserves. 🐾💕

Now all she needs is a family of her very own who loves sunny days, cozy moments, and soaking up all the good things in life just as much as she does! 🌻

Sunday was a wonderful event that saw 16 cats find furever homes, including Socket! Socket is a senior cat who came to us because his owner had to move out of state and Socket couldn’t go. Well…Socket became our 300th cat adoption in 2026! We’re so excited for Socket and his new family and wish them many happy years together!!

Happy September, Barktober friends! 🐾🎃

Can you believe we’re just a little over a month away from the 2026 Barktober 5K & 1-Mile Walk? Fall and Barktober will be here before we know it!

A reminder about a couple of important registration deadlines:

🐾 September 26th is the deadline to be guaranteed a Barktober T-shirt. After September 26th, shirts will no longer be guaranteed, and registration will increase by $5.

🏅 Finisher medals are limited to the first 200 people registered for the 5K. And remember, you don’t have to be a runner! You are more than welcome to walk the 5K and still earn your finisher medal.

We would love to have you join us again this year! We have lots of fun planned for both our two-legged and four-legged participants, and most importantly, your participation helps support the animals of the Portage APL. ❤️🐶🐱

We hope to see some familiar faces—and wagging tails—at Barktober on Saturday, October 10th at Rootstown Community Park!
