Has your dog ever suffered an injury that requires you to try to keep them calm while it heals? Some tips follow:
1. Sniffing for 20 min is as tiring to a dog as an hour long walk and also more enriching. Creating sniffing games is easy.
Collect toilet paper tubes, cut in half and fold in one end place a nice smelly treat in it and fold the other end. Repeat. Then hide around your yard. Give your dog one treat and walk them around your yard telling them to find it. Alternatively you could set this up in another room of your house and let them come in to find them.
2. Engage them with long lasting chews such as soup bones, frozen stuffed kongs and you can even give the soup bones new life by stuffing them as well ;)
3. Teach them something new, your dog loves to please you and interact with you. There are tons of 'games' you can play together.
4. Leash walks are usually recommended so going someplace new is a sniffing extravaganza and something you'll both enjoy!
Lastly, calming chews can help and lots of loving snuggle times will help your convalescent pup not feel bummed they can't play fetch and run around like normal 😉
BTW: Wrinkles is not healing as much as he should so if he's still limping by Thursday it's off to get x-rays, sigh...the vet said 7-10 days and gave him an anti inflammatory just for dogs (never ever give a dog human ones)...REALLY hoping we don't have to do that as it involves sedation 🙏🤞
