August is National Dog month! 🐶🐾

Whether your dog is your walking partner, riding copilot, couch buddy, protector or treat tester, they always bring us joy, laughs, loyalty and companionship into our lives. 🦴@

Leaving a pet in a parked car is extremely dangerous and can cause fatal heat stroke in just 10 minutes even if the windows are cracked or the temperature outside feels mild. A car’s internal temperature can rise by nearly 20° in 10 minutes making it illegal in many states to leave an animal confined in a dangerous vehicle.

WHY HOT VEHICLES ARE DEADLY

* Fast Heating: Vehicles trap heat like an oven., even on a mild day. A 70°F day can turn a vehicles interior to 90°F in just 10 minutes

* Poor Cooling: Pets do not sweat like humans. Dogs & cats mostly cool down by panting, which does not work well in hot, stagnant air (cars air conditioning)

* Cracked Windows: Leaving vehicle windows open a little bit does nothing to stop the rapid rise of inside temperature.

SIGNS OF HEATSTROKE

* Heavy, loud panting or trouble breathing

*. Thick, sticky drool or saliva

* Red or dark purple gums & tongue

* Weakness, wobbling or acting confused

* Vomiting, diarrhea or collapse. (ASPAC)

We know our pets love to go for their car rides, but if you have to make a stop to run in someplace, even a quick stop, and have to leave your pet in the car, it’s best and safer to leave them home. 🐾🐶🐈
