Shout out to all the NRCHA trainers at the Snaffle Bit, who decided getting something with the mind of a toddler and the body of a pro athlete to do hard things in a scary setting wasn't enough and said, "you know what, lets turn a disrespectful bovine loose in the arena just to make this interesting."

Had a great trip south! I'm back in SD now playing catch up while we still have some decent weather.

Every. Single. Consignment. Has X-Rays in the repository.
*All X-Rays are taken within 45 days of sale day.
*All X-Rays are a “full set” which means they include: Hocks, Stifles, knees, Fetlocks and some horses provided navicular views of the front feet.
*A vet is required to view the X-Rays but it is super easy to either, set your vet up to view the rads remotely (from any device with internet) OR I can connect you with an equine vet ready to view for you. You can look at the X-Rays along WITH A VET. ⬅️
*Buyer confidence along with, Customer service is my goal!

Since there's been a little wave of new folks on here, it seemed like time to do a little intro in case you've stumbled in looking for wisdom, or you realize I'm that grouchy vet you can't stand and want to bail out now!

I'm Jesi Harvey, and I became a licensed veterinarian in Texas in 2013. I worked in equine and mixed animal practice there until 2020 when I made the move to Oklahoma. While working in OK I started Outta Line Animal Chiropractic as a side line to my primary job breeding mares. After a few years in OK I moved to South Dakota to be closer to my parents in Wyoming. My time in South Dakota led to becoming an independent contractor and the development of Outta Line Veterinary Services. I'm licensed in SD, WY, TX & OK. I'm certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, and I am trained in veterinary acupuncture (working on my certification). I've been blessed to have worked on some legendary horses and with some legendary veterinarians. I'm pretty average, but my network helps me get to do some cool things!

This time of year I spend a lot of time on the road with the bossiest heeler around. I mostly use this page to share travel plans and information that I hope people find useful or at least entertaining. If you look back, you'll see I've been pro-sale repository since before it was cool.

Brief PSA: One-eared Willie & I were both today years old and made the same face when we learned that some of the horse-buying public thinks that the mere existence of radiographs in a sale repository means that those radiographs are 100% free of any abnormal findings.

No.

This is not how sales work. This is not how x-rays work. This is not how horses work.

Horse auctions are the peak example of "You're an adult now" and "Nobody is coming to save or stop you" lessons.

Sale radiographs are information. Full stop. What is a deal breaker for one client is a bid limiter for another client. Very very few horses are 100% clean. It's a matter of what abnormalities do you absolutely not want to take home and what level of risk are you comfortable with at what price point. Often the horse is consigned to the sale long before the first film is taken, so even if there's a time bomb on the x-rays, the seller didn't know about it before the x-ray deadline. Stop blaming sellers for not doing your homework for you. If the radiographs exist, get them looked at!

Shopping the Pink Buckle Sale? Don't be dumb, check the radiographs! I'm here, but any licensed veterinarian in any state can review x-rays for you simply by getting a login. It's easy. The people running the repository are absolutely here to help. There's no excuse for not doing it. Maybe it costs you money, but I'd argue it saves you money in the long run! If your own vet isn't available, call or text me. There's literally not an excuse for buying something out of this sale without knowing what's on those x-rays. 605-787-8315

Happy October! I'm once again on the road with my best heeler co-pilot. I'll be around Guthrie, OK this week if anyone needs anything at the Pink Buckle, then I'm off to Jacksboro for the next week, with a few ventures in to Ft Worth for the Snaffle Bit Futurity. Good luck to all the competitors, but especially to the cute little bay roan filly that's going to win the Snaffle Bit!!!

Patty is modeling peak broodmare physique! If your broodmare doesn't look like this, now is the best time of year to correct that. Get those colts weaned (age appropriately, of course), float her teeth, and check for parasites. Then feed her until she's fat and happy going into winter. As one of my college professors used to say, broodmares should show up to breeding season with their lunch already packed!

It's also a good time to check older mares for metabolic diseases like Cushing's or insulin dysregulation, and evaluate for signs of lameness so you can have issues managed before the clock is ticking on breeding season. A little fat is good, a lot of fat might be a problem!

Sound on for your misophonia moment of the day confirming that Mongo loves his Platinum Performance. I'm not the biggest "supplement" pusher but this is a company I believe because they have actually, literally, done the research. As in, scientific studies, not the Dr Google research most of us are guilty of! My personal favorite is the Repro Care formula, though of course Mongo has no need for that since he cannot be reproduced. He just gets his wellness foundation and Skin and Allergy during fly season since he's a delicate flower of a ranch horse!
