Wow! Featured on The Dodo!! Thank you to them for helping us spread the word about helping the black cats.

Although, if they reached out for a comment, we would have said that we also pause black cat adoptions in the month of October to dissuade those who might adopt one for the "trend". Akin to when people adopt bunnies or chicks during Easter and then give them away or in our case, return them weeks later. Cats (and all other pets) are lifetime commitments, not something used to boost your algorithm. We love them and always want to protect them. ❤️😻

Some animal shelters are temporarily pausing black cat adoptions this October because of concerns about their safety around Halloween. 🐈‍⬛🎃

Mountain Cats TNR in West Virginia is among the rescues waiting until after Halloween to adopt out black cats, citing concerns about mistreatment linked to longstanding superstitions.

Black cats have been associated with bad luck and witchcraft for centuries, but animal welfare experts say there's no reliable evidence that black cats face a widespread increase in ritual abuse during Halloween.

Not all shelters follow the same policy. Some continue adopting black cats throughout October, using their regular screening processes to help ensure they go to safe, permanent homes.

While approaches differ, the goal is to help these cats find families who will care for them long after Halloween is over. 🖤

Introducing Frosty.

Feral kitten that was brought in. Initially tested slight positive for FeLv. Vet recommended retesting in 30 days. We did that and he tested negative ❤️

He is going to be a big boy.
He is very long and lean.

He comes with certain requirements for adoption.

-Must not be around very young children (he plays rough)

-Must have other playful cats and/or a gentle playful dog.
He loves toys and chasing other cats to play with him.

-Must have plenty of space to run.

-Must be willing to give him time to adjust, he loves who he loves but unsure of others. It will be worth it if you are patient with him.

-Must keep his name!! This one is very important as he was named after an Appalachian Trail hiker that we met this past spring when we found him. We think Frosty is a great name and needs to stay with him. ❤️

If you or anyone you know is interested, they must fill out an adoption application (located on our webpage)

Home visit may be required.

Here at MCTNR, we LOVE our Black feline friends and in honor of Black Cat Awareness month, we will be pausing adoptions of all our black kitties until after Halloween. To us, black cats are good luck but to other misguided individuals, they are treated very poorly, especially around this time of year. But mostly, we pause black cat adoptions in the month of October to dissuade those who might adopt one for the "trend". Cats (and all other pets) are lifetime commitments, not something used to boost your algorithm.

In the meantime, let's celebrate them! Share pictures of your beautiful black kitties!
