Scratchmybelly.org ScratchMyBelly.org is a non-profit founded to save animals from high-kill shelters in Southern California and the streets of Baja California. Join us.

Scratch My Belly Rescue focuses on saving dogs on the day they are to be euthanized at high-kill shelters, dogs surrendered from owners in crisis health situations, and abused and severely neglected dogs from Southern California and Baja California. Our goal is to rehabilitate the neglected, injured and sick. We also help healthy animals find forever homes. Every year, about 10 million pets are br

ought to animal shelters across the US and more than 2 million of those are put to sleep. Economically distressed areas and the mindset that selling puppies will make one rich results in too many of the current popular breeds, physical and mental issues in many offspring, and sickness when puppies are not vaccinated and kept in unclean conditions. Parent dogs suffer by being bred over and over and are eventually dumped when they can no longer produce puppies. People adopt these puppies without any concern by the sellers for how the dogs will be raised or live. Many grow up without training or socialization and they wind up in animal shelters. There are areas in Southern California where dogs are not protected in homes and they roam freely, eventually being picked up as stray. Our goal is to rescue dogs who are at the end of their time in a shelter or on the streets in Tijuana when other rescues have not responded to save them. We rescue all breeds as long as we have fosters to bring them into a home. We rescue puppies, adults, and some senior dogs. Every dog is fully vetted and gets the care needed to be sure they are healthy before they are made adoptable. We also take in some owner surrenders, focusing on dogs whose owners have medical or financial emergencies that force them to relinquish. We look for just the right home for each and every dog. We do home checks of fosters and adopters and dogs are part of the rescue for their entire life - if they ever have to be surrendered, they are to come back to Scratch My Belly. Donate, foster, adopt. Save a life with us today.

Lucky πŸ€ 13 - available now πŸ’•

Some of our lucky 13 babies are finally ready for adoption.

Please understand that these dogs came from a very specific situation and are not your regular dogs. They are Velcro dogs, seeking human love and attention and will need continued work on getting them adjusted to β€œdog life”

Applications can be found on our website ScratchMyBelly.org/forms

No doggie doors allowed. Please don’t apply if you plan to leave them alone all day, they need human connection. Most of them will do better in a home with another dog.

Out of state adoption but we do NOT ship dogs.

All dogs have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

Meet Delilah, she is looking for a new foster! Lucky πŸ€ 13
(Description by her foster mom)

Delilah is a very sweet, calm, good natured girl. She is very quiet and has only barked to alert us on a few occasions. She is mastering using p*e pads and going potty in the grass when taken outside. She is very food motivated making training tasks easier.

Delilah has gotten along with every dog she has met. She seems comfortable around children and approaches them willingly. She seeks human attention by staying very close and loves to snuggle and be pet.

Delilah still seems uncertain about the outside world. It is all new to her and she sometimes needs to be carried a small distance away from the house before she will walk on her own.

We think she would benefit from being in a foster with another dog so she can learn how to β€œbe” a dog.

Sweet Millie went to the vet yesterday, and it was confirmed that both of her ears will require surgery. Years of untreated chronic ear infections have caused both ear canals to fully close. πŸ’”

Her surgery is scheduled for the 30th.

To say this week has been emotionally and financially overwhelming for the rescue would be an understatement. We said goodbye to Spencer due to old age and lost our sweet girl Canela to kidney failure. On top of that, several of our surgery cases required unexpected additional procedures and costs due to complications and underlying conditions.

Rescue is never easy, but dogs like Millie remind us why we keep going. She deserves the chance to finally live without pain and discomfort after everything she has been through.

A huge shoutout to Soulful Eyes Rescue for safely transporting Millie to and from her vet appointment from her foster home. πŸš•πŸ’•

And many thanks to Ellis for showering Miss Millie with love while she decompresses and heals. 🩷

Little Bee still waiting for her home 🏑

Beethoven is part of our LUCKY πŸ€ 11 group and one of the last ones still looking for her forever home.

She is silly and a really good girl. She gets along well with her fur siblings and is enjoying the world of being a dog.

Little Bee is spayed, vaccinated and chipped.

Farewell to our sweet boy Spencer, who made his peaceful transition shortly after midnight. πŸ’”

Spencer came to us from the Orange County shelter in extremely rough condition. He was suffering from severe skin issues, an infected eye that ultimately needed to be removed, organ failure, and so much more.

Despite everything his fragile little body had endured, Spencer quickly became part of the Stora family. He discovered the joy of good food, soft blankets, and gentle love. His foster sibling Vanilla made sure he was always tucked in warm, and for the first time in a long time, Spencer got to experience comfort, safety, and kindness.

A special thank you to Jessica, an incredible volunteer at the OC Shelter, who helped get Spencer safely to us when he needed it most.

Our time with Spencer was far too short, but we are grateful he learned one very important thing before saying goodbye: it is never too late to be loved. 🌈

Miss Millie needs a temporary foster for a few days while we coordinate her upcoming vet care and ear surgery in TJ.

Millie would do best in a calm home with a mellow male dog, as she is still decompressing from the only life she has ever known.

This sweet girl has spent her entire life being used for breeding and living in a crate 24/7. She is not your β€œtypical” dog β€” the world is brand new to her.

But despite everything, Millie is incredibly willing to love, learn, and trust. She wants so badly to fit in and be part of a family.

A patient, loving environment will make all the difference for her as she begins this new chapter. 🀍
