A Gentle Spring Reminder for Dog Families 🌿🐾

Here on the farm, things grow a little wild, so I honestly don’t think much about chemicals on the grass. Clover, weeds, mud, tall grass, bare spots — it’s all just part of farm life.

But not every yard is managed that way, and this time of year so many lawns, fields, sidewalks, parks, and neighborhoods are being sprayed, treated, fertilized, or freshly seeded.

It’s a good reminder that our dogs live much closer to the ground than we do. They walk through grass, roll in it, chew it, sniff it, nap in it, and then lick their paws. Even products meant for home lawn care can sometimes irritate paws, skin, mouths, or stomachs — especially if the grass is still damp, heavily treated, or there’s overspray or runoff.

Whenever possible, consider pet-conscious or more natural lawn care options, spot-treating only when needed, and giving treated areas plenty of extra time before letting dogs back on them.

A few things to watch for after possible exposure:

🌱 Paw licking or chewing
🐾 Redness, irritation, limping, or sore pads
💦 Drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea
👀 Wobbliness, weakness, tremors, or just acting “off”

Healthy grass is nice, but healthy dogs matter more. A little extra caution this time of year can make a big difference. 🌿🐾💚
