Big Poplar Farm Big Poplar Farm is located in Ramseur, NC and is owned and operated by Dusty and Patricia Cockerham.

The mission of Big Poplar Farm is to raise choice Fullblood and Percentage Boer Goats to be sold as breeding stock for both those new to the Boer industry and those looking to improve their current herds. Our goal is to raise goats that exemplify breed characteristics, no matter what color coat, and most importantly goats that can be financially justified through living long productive lives.

Weaned our first group of Ram lambs on the year. Heaviest is 60 lb and 78 days old. Lightest is 42 lb at 72 days old. Averaging a 50 lb weaning weight. 11 Rams totalling 557 lb.

We wrapped up lambing for a few weeks yesterday. (I think 😂 ) So far we have had 22 ewes have 42 lambs. 15 ewe lambs and 27 ram lambs. 2 sets of triplets and only 4 singles. We only had one lamb born that didn't make it. This was spread out in a 60 day window, not bad considering we used a 5 month old ram!

When we got in the goat business one of the best pieces of advice we received was to find someone with good livestock who raises them the way you want to raise them and keep buying from them. When it comes to Katahdins, for us, that has been Snider Farm . Added 7 more white ewe lambs yesterday. Also pictured are some of the ewes we got from them that have already lambed twice for us and have been great!

In our experience it's not that often that you get 9 great years from a working livestock dog. Jasper was among the first litter of puppies ever born at the farm. In his early years he always stayed in the furthest pasture from the house because we were confident he would keep 2-legged predators away and we trusted him fully with his livestock. As the years went by he slowed down and moved closer to the house. He will be missed, but thankful he lived a long life doing what he loved.
