For being called a “solo sport,” we sure have some pretty incredible teammates. 🔥

Give me a mare any day. 🩷
They’ll test you, make you earn it, and keep you humble… but once they trust you, there’s nothing quite like a good mare.
Now… before everyone comes after me, my heart horse was a gelding. 😉
Are you choosing a mare or a gelding?

💥You can’t ask a horse to do something they don’t know💥

It’s easy to become frustrated when a horse doesn’t respond the way we’d hoped. I like to ask myself one question:

Have I actually taught them what I’m asking?

Horses aren’t born knowing how to side pass, move off your leg, collect, or even load into a trailer.

Those things have to be taught.

My job isn’t to expect the horse to know, it’s to help them understand.

When understanding comes first, willingness usually follows.

That’s the foundation I try to build every day. 🤠

Slow down. Start over. Be light and intentional with everything you do.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people trying to fix a problem by doing more.

Most of the time, the answer isn’t more pressure—it’s more clarity.

If something isn’t working, slow down. Go back to the basics. Ask with the lightest cue you can, and be intentional with your timing.

Don’t rush the process.

The horse isn’t trying to make your job harder. They’re trying to understand what you’re asking.

Good horsemanship isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right things with purpose. 🤠🐴

Forward isn’t speed.

One of the things I’ve been working on recently is helping a horse become more forward.

A lot of people hear “forward” and think faster. That’s not what I’m after.

To me, a forward horse is one that is willing to go when asked, stays mentally engaged, and carries themselves with purpose.

Whether it’s on the ground or under saddle, forward motion creates opportunities. You can’t shape a horse that doesn’t want to go somewhere.

Before I worry about collection, softness, or precision, I want a horse that is willing to move forward with confidence.

Everything else becomes easier after that. 🤠🐴
