There is a positive case in the Barona Mesa area of Ramona. Probable cases in multiple other locations. Vets are awaiting test results.
Although I do feel like I'm jumping the gun a little bit, I work with lots of older horses with compromised immune systems and have an obligation to help keep them safe.
So, I am letting you all know that all upcoming equine sessions may be postponed until more information about how widespread or isolated these incidents are in our area. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but not sorry for taking the health of all my client’s horses into consideration!!
I will keep you updated as new information comes in regarding this situation.
This disease, as far as I can tell from the research, does not affect canines. This is what I could find. Vesicular stomatitis is a viral disease that primarily affects horses and cattle. It occasionally affects swine, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, and people who handle affected animals.
Thank you for Understanding!
