A REAL UPDATE FROM THE FARM ❤️🐔
SDPH has now issued a public health alert to retailers, stating that we were asked to voluntarily recall our eggs and refused, and is directing retailers to pull our eggs from their shelves.
Here’s what we want you to know:
We have fully complied with egg producer regulations and have voluntarily held ALL production from the two sites involved for more than two weeks.
That means none of the eggs from these sites have been washed, packaged, or sent out.
These two sites make up approximately 75% of our production, which is why you’ve likely noticed significantly less Happy Hens stock at retailers.
And while zero additional cases have surfaced, this public health alert is now being issued.
The impact on our family business is enormous. The hens still have to eat, whether we sell their eggs or not. We are already at approximately $50,000 in feed costs alone while production remains held.
We take food safety and public health seriously. That’s exactly why we’ve held the eggs.
But when production has already been held for more than two weeks, no eggs from those sites have entered commerce, and no additional cases have surfaced, it’s hard for us to understand how this is about public health alone. It feels like it’s becoming about control.
We’re going to keep doing things the right way — with transparency, integrity, and care.
