Does your dog need to go back to Elementary School? 🎓

Elementary School isn't just for puppies. It's for dogs of **any age** who need a solid training foundation — especially those dogs who "know it at home," but struggle to use those same skills out in the real world.

In Elementary School, we'll work on the foundational skills that make everyday life with your dog easier:

• Recall
• Focus and attention
• Sit and down
• Beginning stay
• Leave it
• Place
• Loose-leash walking
• Handling and more

But we're not just teaching your dog a list of commands.

We're teaching you how to communicate with your dog, how to build skills that work when real life is happening around you, and how to continue strengthening those skills long after class ends.

Puppy just getting started? Absolutely.

Newly adopted dog who needs a fresh start? Yep.

Adult dog who somehow missed a few chapters of their education? Send them back to school. 😆

**Elementary School begins September 1.**

I’m a dog trainer. I also use Fear Free /force free methods. And my clients get results starting with our first session.

I recently saw a post online throwing a trainer under the bus because they didn’t get results and in this case the dog got worse. The trainer went on talking about pricing, packages, and lightly on methods.

So let’s dive into that - Pricing: Dog training done by a professional with insurance, equipment, taxes, and education is going to cost. There are trainers in our town that attend a training class at a big box pet store and then called themselves a trainer and started having clients pay them. If pricing is a concern, make sure that your trainer actually has the experience and education needed to help your dog.

Packages - if you want to learn a new skill, it’s unlikely you are going to learn a new way to do something in one session. And as a professional, we need to plan out our training. Each client team requires a training plan including method implementation, teaching both the dog and the owner their new skills, then putting the new skills to work adding distance, distraction, and difficulty. It’s called a lesson plan and it needs time to be implemented.

And methods - just because a trainer doesn’t use an e-collar- that doesn’t mean they can’t train a dog - or that they can’t train aggressive dogs. I would suggest that timing in your training is more important than anything else. Treat wrong and you could be encouraging the wrong behavior, hit your remote at the wrong time and an aggressive dog could easily redirect into the handler.

When I first started my training journey in 2012 I was a “balanced trainer” but after watching my mentors working with their service dog clients I realized that the correction part of training was causing the dogs to lose some confidence in their handlers. That’s when I started working on my timing and implementing training that the dogs needed. For some that is playing a game, offering a puzzle, etc.

I’m now Fear Free Certified, and I love that when my furry clients current and past see me, or even hear my voice on social media - they are happy.

I’m not here to put other trainers down. But I am here to let people know that there is help.

We are associated with The Rescued Pup and we have a fee based sliding scale training program coming out in the next few months. So stay tuned…

Here’s one of our current clients, Raisin. He originally ended up at the shelter after he and 30+ other dogs were removed from a Long Beach area residence. He was so fearful and fractious that he found himself slated for BE. You know we ❤️ the naughty noodles - and he and his brother from another mother fit the billl! Unable to be handled at all, it took months of calm interactions and moving the boys from crate to crate. They were terrified and while they have always been food motivated, they didn’t trust any people to give them the food. What started out as dogs that would only eat if you delivered the food to their crate and then left the room.. had blossomed into this.

We use force free, fear free methods and try to have every new or relearned interaction have a positive association.

And yes, Raisin still has a long way to go. But he will eat out of my hand, has excellent recall when he’s running around outside and we have high hopes that he will be comfortable enough for us to pet him.

For now we will take this win….

We want to address the 5 most common training myths - and offer a positive reinforcement option. Here's Myth #1

Prong Collars Fix Leash Pulling! It might seem like prong collars work—after all, the pulling stops, right?

But the truth is, they don’t teach your dog what to do—they teach them what not to do through discomfort. And that’s not real learning. It’s just avoidance.

✨ At Naughty Noodle Academy, we believe in bringing out the nice in dogs through connection—not correction.
We teach leash skills by:
💛 Encouraging engagement
💛 Reinforcing calm walking
💛 Building trust with every step

Because when dogs feel safe and understood, they learn beautifully.
