Meet Uncas.

One of the traits we value most in a future family protection dog is confidence, and Uncas has plenty of it.

He’s social, outgoing, and naturally comfortable around people and new environments. For a protection dog, that’s a big deal. A dog that is confident enough to engage with the world around him is often a dog that can think clearly, handle pressure, and make good decisions when it matters most.

Uncas is currently progressing through advanced off-leash obedience and protection development, including bark on command, out on command, public access training, and environmental exposure.

As his training continues, we’re focused on developing a dog that is equally comfortable accompanying his family in everyday life as he is stepping up when the situation calls for it.

The foundation is there, and we’re excited to continue building on it.

Bongo Czech-Bett isn’t being developed to just “look” like a protection dog. He’s being developed to live cleanly in the real world.

One of the things we value most in a young personal protection dog is an open, environmentally stable temperament. A dog can have all the drive in the world, but if they can’t think clearly around people, children, noise, pressure, travel, or everyday life, they don’t belong in a serious protection program.

Bongo has continued to show the kind of balanced temperament we look for in our Private Estate Dogs.

Confident without being hectic. Social without being weak. Engaged without becoming environmentally overwhelmed.

He’s currently in foundation development at Taylor Made Working Dogs with a heavy focus on:• Advanced off-leash obedience• Environmental exposure and neutrality• Positional control and engagement• Public stability and clear thinking under pressure• Structured protection development• Real-world reliability around family environments

As his program progresses, Bongo Czech-Bett will continue developing into a personal protection dog and private estate companion capable of transitioning between home life, travel, public environments, and protection work with clarity and control.

Dogs like this are why temperament matters so much in working-line German Shepherd breeding.

A truly exceptional protection dog should not live like a liability. The goal is a dog that can exist calmly around family, guests, children, property staff, and daily life — while still possessing the genetics, nerve strength, and working ability necessary for real protection work when required.

Merlin.

One of the newest young males currently in development here at Taylor Made Working Dogs.

Calm, observant, environmentally stable, and already showing the kind of composure we look for in our Personal Protection Dogs. Merlin is currently in advanced development and is expected to complete his full training program in August here in Ramona, California.

His finished training will include:
• Advanced off leash obedience
• Public access and service-level obedience
• Bark on command
• Bite on command
• Environmental neutrality and real-world exposure
• Structured home and lifestyle integration

The goal is never just intensity. True protection work is about control, clarity, and stability in everyday life. A dog that can quietly accompany you anywhere, yet confidently respond when needed.

Merlin is being developed with that standard in mind, and we’re very excited to watch him continue progressing over the next few months.

Gunner first came to us as a puppy and he’s been the same dog ever since.

Solid. Clear-headed. Easy to live with.

A lot of that starts with good breeding and it shows with him. He’s the kind of dog you notice right away.

This is exactly what we like having at Taylor Made Working Dogs. Large breeds, serious dogs, and owners who want a place that actually understands them.

Not every boarding facility is built for dogs like this. Ours is and we love it.

Minor injuries were reported during Gunners play time today, nothing life-threatening. Knee pads and helmets are now part of Cane Corso play time SOPs. The show must go on here at Taylor Made Working Dogs. 😆

This is what most people get wrong when searching for a protection dog.
They confuse high drive with unstable energy. They’re not the same thing — and mixing them up is how you end up with a protection dog that can’t actually protect you.
You want drive. Drive is what makes a protection dog a protection dog. But drive without stability, without the right temperament, without proper training — that’s not a protection dog. That’s a liability.
A real protection dog has to be able to do this. To decompress. To exist peacefully in your home. Because a protection dog that’s wound too tight, too stressed, too “on” all the time — isn’t protecting you. It’s just another thing you have to manage.
Clif is a protection dog. And right now, he’s just relaxing. Because that’s what a properly trained protection dog does.

Behind the scenes of Clif’s protection training. 🐕‍🦺
The bark is the easy part.

“Look, ever since I started board and train at Taylor Made Working Dogs in San Diego… they got me out here following rules and stuff. Apparently I’m becoming a personal protection dog now.
I didn’t even ask for this.
First they rolled my favorite ball right past me. Then one of my favorite girls jumped over my back — and I’ve got a lot of favorite girls. Then Kris had the audacity to kick my ball — my favorite thing in the whole world — right in front of my face.
I didn’t move once.
Not gonna lie though… I kind of feel like a different dog. A cool dog. A very cool dog.”
