Cotton’s first Fast CAT Invitational is in the books! 🏁

Branson was certainly one to remember, it was hot & dry but we made the most of it! With the weather conditions, both were slow tracks and Cotton certainly didn’t run his best times. However, it was great to meet so many other Fast CAT lovers and a handful of the other Lab Invitees!

Cotton was still able to secure his 1,000 points and FCAT title this weekend alongside a gorgeous ribbon! Here’s to hoping we’re back in 2027💕

🏆CKC Weekend Recap🏆

Just when I thought last weekend was great, this one was even better! 3 PBs and ALL of the dogs running a 7.30s or lower!

Cotton was MUCH more consistent this weekend with the exception of one run. There were 2 lure errors before his first run that unintentionally exhausted him; to err on the side of caution, I ran Rum twice and came back to him. He now has 3 scores this season 29mph+ bringing his ‘26 Season Average up to a 29.21!

Rum too was uber consistent and brought the heat! She ran 4 runs with only one under 28mph & managed a new PB of 28.41 to follow up last weekend’s. Her ‘26 Season Average now sits at 28.21 following her -now- 4 scores over 28mph!

Flower & Appa came back for their share of Fun Runs too! BOTH running their PBs within “normal” 100 Percent Retrievers perimeters. Appa ran just over 28mph & Flower had the second fastest run of the day, today for my crew pulling a 28.25mph OR 7.24s. 0.04 seconds from Rum’s 7.2s PB at only 10 months old🏁

Feeling great going into Invitationals with Cotton this week knowing he’s consistently capable of 29mph+; although, he’ll need to pull another illusive sub 7s run to have a shot at BOB. In really good news, Cotton now has 950.99 lifetime points and should get his FCAT at Invitationals ✨

🏆 RKC Weekend Recap! 🏆

Flower & Appa had their very first runs ever and earned some really fun, first ribbons thanks to HYH! Flower ran one fun run around 25mph+ & Appa ran two fun runs around 26-27mph. Both pups were so good for their first runs at a busy event!

Rum only ran Thursday since she came home with an injured paw pad but ran a new PB of 7.3s /28.02mph! Cotton ran all 3 days to accrue points towards his FCAT title we’re hoping to get in Branson at Invitationals. He ran in his usual (if not slightly faster) range despite long mornings and HOT temperatures. He even managed his PB and first sub 7s run at 6.93s/29.52mph!!

Super proud of all 4 labs that ran this weekend, looking forward to doing it again in McLeansville with Cotton & Rum (assuming her paw is healed). Then it’s onto Invitationals!! 🏁

It was a HOT one 🥵 but nonetheless, all of the pups were champs today for some training with Flower’s breeder, Shawn Swindell. All 6 dogs we ran between the two of us did so well, especially the puppies who are improving rapidly. Excited to get back into the hunt test world this winter after our little one gets here. Hopefully running Junior/Started with Flower & Senior/Finished with Cotton!

Today was Cotton’s breeding soundness exam and semen evaluation at Infinity Canine, LLC! The staff was super kind & knowledgeable; they even complemented Cotton on his balanced behavior.💕

✅ Brucellosis Negative
🔍 Motility- 97% (94% progressive)
Count- 684 million
Concentration- 76 million/mL
Morphology- 92% normal

Cotton was so great for his first collection and those numbers are stellar for a clean out collection!

Cotton got to play a very special role this week as he helped us announce that we’re expecting! Such a good boy for this❤️

08/25/2026

The weather this morning was too great not to take advantage of! Our walks lately have been to and from the river but we were able to really use the trails today💕 Getting excited for fall!!

Fast CAT season starts again next weekend in Raleigh & Cotton will get his semen evaluation done next week as well. Moving into a busier time of year for sure!

I had a super busy weekend playing secretary for Cotton! His Fast CAT Invitationals entry was submitted & accepted, booked accommodations for our trip to Missouri too. I also entered 2 other Fast CAT events in September to warm up and accrue points before we head out west in hopes that at a minimum, Cotton will get his FCAT at Invitationals (and hopefully Best of Breed🤞)

Additionally, I finally got around to submitting documentation for several AKC titles through their application portal. Pending AKC approval, Cotton will get his Fetch Intermediate, Fetch Advanced, and Fit Gold titles! These 3 titles will bring Cotton up to 24 titles total at 4 years old in both Performance and Companion events as well as in Temperament. Once I get a few more videos, we’ll submit for his Trick Dog Advanced to make it 25!!

With quite a few breeding inquiries from b*tch owners, Cotton also has a date with Infinity K9 for a semen collection & evaluation alongside brucellosis testing. We have a busy and exciting fall ahead of us!!

Flower & I had a little 1 on 1 time picking up goods for the truck and the horses this am! Tractor Supply never disappoints as a great place to train 🫶🏼

07/22/2026

Cotton got some SUPER exciting mail today! In his first Fast CAT season, Cotton finished tied for 9th of 504 Labrador Retrievers that ran in 2025. 2026 is the first year they’ve invited the Top 10 from each breed and we’re so excited to go!! Here’s to what we hope is the first of many AKC Fast CAT Invitationals! 🏁
