Because one birthday post simply wasn’t enough… ✨

The celebration of Dani-D continues! 🎉🐾

From birthday treats and extra snuggles to supervisory rounds and greeting her adoring fans, our birthday girl spent the day doing what she does best—being the heart and soul of our clinic. 💖

At 10 years young, Dani is still our Chief Happiness Officer, Ferret Enthusiast, Chaos Coordinator, and the very best friend to everyone who walks through our doors.

We couldn’t fit all of her special moments into just one post, so here’s a little more of Dani’s birthday magic. ✨🎂

Join us in wishing our favorite clinic pup the happiest of birthdays once again! We think every day should be Dani Day, but today is officially hers. 🥳🐶💕

Happy 10th Birthday, Dani-D! May your year be filled with endless treats, sunny naps, and plenty of ferret visits. 🦦💗

🐾 Why Vaccinate Wednesday: Lyme Disease in Dogs

Why consider the Lyme vaccine for your dog?

Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness caused by bacteria transmitted through infected deer ticks. And in North Carolina, ticks are extremely common, making exposure a real risk for many dogs.

Some dogs may not show symptoms right away, but Lyme disease can cause:

🐶 Limping or shifting leg lameness
🐶 Joint pain and swelling
🐶 Fever
🐶 Low energy and decreased appetite

In more severe cases, Lyme disease can lead to serious kidney complications.

Prevention matters because ticks are tiny and easy to miss, especially after hikes, walks, or time outdoors.

💉 The Lyme vaccine helps reduce the risk of infection and serious complications, especially when combined with:

✔️ Year-round tick prevention
✔️ Daily tick checks after outdoor activities

Together, these steps provide the best protection against Lyme disease in dogs.

💛 At Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotics, we recommend Lyme vaccination based on your dog’s lifestyle and risk level, especially here in North Carolina where tick exposure is common.

🐾 Why Vaccinate Wednesday: Canine Influenza (Dog Flu)

🐶 Canine Influenza (“dog flu”) is a highly contagious respiratory virus that spreads quickly anywhere dogs gather and interact closely.

It’s most commonly spread through:
• Respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing
• Close contact with other dogs
• Shared environments like boarding, daycare, grooming, training classes, or dog parks

Because it spreads so easily, dogs can be contagious before they even show signs of illness.

What does canine influenza look like? 👀
Signs can range from mild to more serious and may include:
• Coughing
• Nasal discharge
• Fever
• Lethargy
• Decreased appetite

Some dogs can develop pneumonia or secondary infections, especially puppies, senior pets, or those with underlying health conditions.

✨ Here’s the important part ✨

👉 Vaccination helps reduce the risk and severity of illness.

👉While the canine influenza vaccine is not considered a core vaccine for every dog, it is strongly
recommended for social dogs and those frequently exposed to other pets through boarding, daycare, grooming, training, or dog parks.
———
💛 At Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic, we tailor vaccine recommendations to your pet’s individual lifestyle—because prevention should fit your pet’s world.

🤔 Not sure if your pup would benefit from the canine influenza vaccine? We’re happy to help you decide!
