SB 201, a bill to make it illegal for Utah pounds to kill animals that rescue groups are willing to save, has passed the Utah House and Senate and is awaiting the Governor’s signature.

The bill, modeled after The No Kill Advocacy Center’s Animal Rescue Act, requires “shelters” to notify qualified groups two days before killing animals and allow their rescue. If signed into law, it will save lives, save money, spare rescuer suffering, and bring in millions of dollars in tax revenue.

In California, for example, a similar law has been on the books since 1998. It has increased the number of animals transferred to rescue groups rather than killed from 12,526 a year to 99,783 — a nearly 700% increase, all at no cost to taxpayers.

​In fact, it resulted in a potential cost savings of over $4,000,000 statewide for killing and destruction of remains. Over 2,000,000 animals have been saved since the law’s inception.

**update: adopted at the shelter 🥰🥰🥰

Winslow has been given the grace of ONE FINAL EXTENSION until Monday, March 23. After that, there are no more chances.

He is only 3 years old and has so much life left to live… but right now, he is out of time.

Winslow is:
✔️ Sweet and gentle
✔️ Dog-friendly (no cats)
✔️ Calm and loving
✔️ Desperate for someone to choose him

He doesn’t understand why he’s still there… watching others leave while he waits.

We tried to get a big adoption celebration photo.

Pip said absolutely not.
His adopter agreed.

No posing. No smiling. No “everybody look happy.”

So instead, here’s a very serious photo of two individuals who would both like to go home now.

Pip wouldn’t look at the camera.
His adopter looked like he was being held hostage by a blue bench.

Zero enthusiasm.
Zero participation.

But also… zero hesitation about leaving together.

Just a quiet “yeah… this is my person.”

And honestly?
That’s how you know.

Which… mission accomplished.

And honestly?
That’s kind of perfect. ❤️
