Need a new friend?

If you ever thought to yourself, I’d love to have a dog who acts like a cat, Rosie is your girl! She’s content to lie near you on the couch; however, she is not a lap dog. She will lay at the foot of the bed, on the second pillow or peacefully in her crate at night. Her favorite toy is a Nyla bone and the occasional piece of crushed ice. She is proudly not a high-maintenance pup.

Rosie came from a hoarding situation with over 29 dogs in the home, hence unique personality. Rosie really watches and learns from the dogs in her foster home. Her adoptive home should preferably have another small social dog not larger than 15 pounds. Rosie has good energy with other dogs and oftentimes gets in the dog beds or an open crate with them. She looks to the other dogs to see how they react when experiencing something new.

Rosie will be cautious around new people, especially men, so it will take time for her to warm up. We are asking for an all-female home for Rosie. During her time with us she has shown she only responds to women…she will not go out the door with a man to go potty. Let’s get real, that would make it super hard for your male family member or friend to help you if you, the female, are not home.

Rosie is crate trained and doing very well with house training and leash walking; in fact, she looks forward to her daily walks. We require a securely fenced yard for Rosie so she can have the opportunity to be safely supervised in her own yard, plus a fenced yard helps with housetraining and most importantly it is an added layer of safety, because Rosie is quick! The first few months in her foster home Rosie tended to run away when scared instead of to her foster mom. That’s the breeder pup in her.

Did you know that box turtles are not native to New Jersey? They are also the only tortoise native to North America.
Well, these folks were surprised to find over 100 box turtles abandoned by the side of a road!! (File this under that people are cruel - they deserve to be abandoned by the side of the road to die.)

Day 7: What Veterinarians Wish Per Parents Knew:

Research the type of fur baby before adoption.

Know not only how to take care of a cat/kitten/puppy/dog/other pet before adoption but about what medical and behavioral concerns are common.

For example: Sleeve (also called teacup or mini) Pekingese are not low maintenance dogs. They are prone to breathing problems, dental problems, heart disease, and eye injury and eye disease. They are not good with most small children or large dogs. They need alot of daily grooming and dental care as well as a consistent high quality can and dry diet. If you are not willing to brush their fur and teeth daily, spend money on veterinary care and a high quality diet, they are not for you.

French Bulldogs are prone to breathing problems, allergic skin and ear conditions, and back and neck problems. These conditions can be life long, severe, expensive and life threatening. You either need to have a large “doggie medical fund” or pet insurance from day 1.

Kittens and puppies are prone to GI foreign bodies, trauma, intestinal parasites and viral infections. It is important to kitty/puppy proof the house, have them examined by a veterinarian immediately, dewormed, follow the recommended vaccination schedule, spay and neuter, socialize, and train.
