As a mom of 3 kiddos with constant training and foster dogs rotating through, I am passionate about dogs and kids safety. All dog bites are preventable and 77% of dogs bites happen to our kids in our home from dogs they know and are familiar with!

I am so exited for my new courses! Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop! It’s going to be amazing- between the use of my space and transition to the city, it’s going to be the best leash course Rochester has to offer!

I had a quick trip I needed to take, but it’s also allowed me time to dive in and continue to add all my pearls of leash handling!

Daily I am reminded that my shift to focus back on training is right and needed! Bomb dogs with more complex skills are getting trained better than mass majority of Rochester dogs:/ # IYKYK and it’s sad:(

As I sat down to write my handout for leash skills in my upcoming leash reactivity course, this magical experience showed up! Goose bumps and all the feelings!

June 2026 all new curriculum is coming in hot!

If your trainer isn’t talking about how to build a relationship with your pup, teaching you how to truly understand what drives and fills your dog’s cup, and helping build your dogs dream life as well as yours, you’re missing the sweet spot in training.

Oscar has had no formal training. We just love each other and get each other!

No special collar or leash is going to solve the problem; just like the highest value treat won’t either. Tools that cause frustration, fear, and anxiety are never a good choice and adding hot dogs will always trump an aversive tool, but it’s truly not about the tools, it’s the relationship!

The Family Fido has come along way since we flipped a horse farm into a dog’s dream, but it’s not finished.

October of 2025 Jess turned 40; we knew the farm had grown in a direction that was not our original DREAM, we had morphing into more typical boarding and daycare than I had ever planned due to demand.

Typical boarding and daycare is fine, but Rochester doesn’t need another boarding facility, there are plenty doing great in that area.

Our dream has always been to be the spot that was small enough to provide 100% individualized experiences. One that truly gets to know your dog! Much like training, each dog needs an individualized path for success- there is no one size fits all with dogs.

We had contemplated shutting down as I couldn’t figure out how to get to where we originally hoped. I continued to pray and reflect and was told to be patient….

Sure enough, a few months a few doors opened and since then things continue to fall into place that are showing us the original DREAM is falling into place!

We cannot wait to show you what we have planned, your dog is going to love it even more!

Some of you may have noticed my husband, Matt spending more time than usual doing dog things with us AND it’s because BIG CHANGES are happening and it’s only possible because of him!

The Family Fido has always been MY dream. Fear and force free handing and training, enrichment, and rescue are all things I’m sure he didn’t envision when we got married!

If it was up to Matt we’d have one dog in our house (currently 6 to put it in perspective!) and our weekends would be filled with easy country living and boat life!

Instead it’s filled with so many amazing dogs and him becoming a professional trainer….treat NOW, grab that gate, we need more pools STAT, this fence needs fixing STAT, sharing beds with random puppies, picking p**p up, needing to find dog friendly restaurants while boating, sandy paws on the boat, build this gate here, drive to Texas for me….NOT what he ever envisioned as far as life and dogs!

However, because of him The Family Fido has grown and NOW is able to pivot to THE BIG DREAM!

Matt has always been the backbone of The Family Fido by allowing me to take this grand adventure and explore the different possibilities without understanding the BIG VISION fully. He’s been the here the whole time behind the scenes keeping things together, but now is actively “working,” the day to day of FIDO to take it to the next level!

What we’re building only works because we’re working together, each using our strengths , and continuing to raise the standard of care for the dogs and families we serve!

Dog Bite Prevention is really education on how to clearly communicate and understand the dogs we live with.

Our new team member Emily is working on her recall with our boarding and daycare dogs.

Some facilities use spray bottles, air horns, and even shock collars to control play and crate calmness, yes it is very true and very sad…..again no regulations when it comes to people caring for your dog.

Low stress handling is one way to prevent dog bites! Happy dogs who are free from pain and anxiety are less likely to bite:)
