🎉👮 Congratulations to our newest Animal Protection Deputy! 🐾🎉

Yesterday marked the beginning of an exciting journey in animal welfare, public service, and community protection. We are proud to welcome our newest Animal Protection Deputy Farmer as she starts her career dedicated to helping animals and serving our community.

This role takes compassion, dedication, courage, and a commitment to making a difference every single day. It requires patience and understanding when working with animals in difficult situations, as well as empathy when assisting pet owners and community members.

Animal Protection Deputies often face challenging circumstances, making it essential to balance professionalism with kindness while advocating for the well-being of animals. From protecting vulnerable animals to educating the public and supporting responsible pet ownership, the work ahead is both challenging and incredibly rewarding.

Please join us in congratulating her as she embarks on this new chapter! We know she will make a positive impact on the lives of countless animals and the people who care for them.
Welcome to the team—we can't wait to see all the amazing things you'll accomplish! 🐶🐱❤️

***Update: Owner Located***

Does anyone recognize this dog? This sweet older female was found this morning in the area of Woodbrook and Walnut. She does have a collar, but no ID or chip. Please contact us if you know where she lives. Our shelter is very loud and she is missing home.

Rainy days at the shelter just mean extra zoomies, muddy paws, and dogs living their absolute best lives. 🌧️🐾

In between the rain storms today, these pups turned their outing into a party. Watching them play together reminds us that happiness doesn’t have to be perfect — sometimes it’s just wet fur, wagging tails, and a yard full of friends.

Today’s rain champions were brother and sister duo Flanagan and Harleigh — a goofy 4–6 month old puppy pair! 🐶 These two are full of puppy energy, sibling shenanigans, and nonstop tail wags… and they’re both available for adoption!

And of course, Chunk joined the rainy day fun too. ❤️ This sweet boy is still waiting patiently for a home of his own. Through every mud hole, belly flop, and happy tail wag, Chunk keeps reminding us what resilient, loving dogs shelter pets can be. We know his people are out there somewhere.

If interested in adopting, please call us tomorrow to set up a meet-n-greet!

📢 A message from your friendly Animal Protection staff at New Kent Animal Shelter:

Remember when we said we added more kennels so we could help more animals?

WELL.
The animals took that personally.

Every time we clean a kennel, another dog appears like:
👁️👄👁️ “I live here now.”

The cats have formed a tiny but rapidly growing union.
The puppies are committing crimes at record speed.
And someone keeps teaching the hounds how to sing.

And despite adding more kennels… they are STILL filled with these sweet souls!

Friends — we desperately need adopters. These animals do not want to grow up in a shelter. They want couches, beds, toys, snacks, car rides, tiny sweaters, and someone to love them unconditionally. We want to find them someone who tells them they’re still cute even when they attempt to eat rocks or dig holes to the middle of the earth.

Our staff is tired and Our laundry situation is terrifying.

But these animals are SO worth it.

Please come adopt. Or foster. Or share our posts. Your new best friend is probably sitting here right now wondering why nobody has come for them yet 💛 Adoption Is only $20.00!

You can see all of our available animals on our website as well: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/shelter/new-kent-sheriffs-office-animal-protection
