Axolotl Care Tips 🐉🌊

Thinking about adding one of these smiling little “water dragons” to your tank? Axolotls are unique amphibians that stay in their aquatic form for life. With the right setup, they can live 10–15 years and bring lots of personality to your aquarium.

✨ Tank Setup:

Minimum 20 gallons for one axolotl (bigger is always better).

Keep the water cool—60–68°F is their comfort zone. Avoid heaters; they overheat easily.

Use a gentle filter with a sponge or spray bar to reduce current.

✨ Substrate:

Bare bottom or fine sand is safest. Gravel and small pebbles can cause dangerous impaction if swallowed.

✨ Diet:

Axolotls are carnivores—feed them high-protein foods like earthworms, bloodworms, pellets, and the occasional treat of frozen shrimp or feeder fish.

Feed young axolotls daily; adults every 2–3 days.

✨ Tankmates:

Best kept alone or with other axolotls. Most fish will either nip at them or become a snack!

✨ Extra Tips:

Handle sparingly—they’re delicate and stress easily.

Keep up with regular water changes; axolotls are sensitive to poor water quality.

Provide hides (like caves or PVC pipes) so they can feel safe.

🌿🐠 Freshwater Tropical Fish Care 101 🐠🌿

Thinking about adding some tropical color to your tank? Here are a few quick tips to keep your freshwater fish happy and healthy:

1️⃣ Stable Water Temps – Most tropical fish thrive between 75–80°F. Use a reliable heater and thermometer.

2️⃣ Clean, Balanced Water – Perform regular water changes (20–30% weekly) and test water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH. Clear water doesn’t always mean healthy water!

3️⃣ Proper Tank Size – Bigger is always better. Overcrowding leads to stress, poor water quality, and sick fish.

4️⃣ Varied Diet – Mix high-quality flakes or pellets with frozen or live foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms for extra nutrition.

5️⃣ Hiding Spots & Plants – Decorations, caves, and live plants give your fish places to relax and reduce stress.
