One Year of A Dog's Hearth!

One year ago today, on August 25, 2025, A Dog's Hearth’s 2 original recipes were officially registered with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. That is the real birthday of this business, and the year since has moved faster than we ever expected.
The full story, including my dad's role as our original chief recipe officer and the dog who started it all, is in the video above. Here, we wanted to walk through how the year actually unfolded, month by month.

August 25, 2025 — Our original Chicken and Lamb recipes officially registered with NYS DAM

August - Our first official client joins the Hearth

September — Endorsed by Dr. Romero, DVM, a relationship that goes back almost two decades

October — Our first digital client, Carol and Bingo, said yes to A Dog's Hearth

December — Our first community market, the Douglaston Winter Festival

January — Our very first Instagram post
April — Our first dog themed event, Old Westbury Gardens

May — Our first appearance at Queens Night Market

May — Completed the Southern Illinois University Canine and Feline Nutrition Certificate Program

July — Two new recipes officially registered, including our first ever grain free recipe

August — We crossed 100 Instagram followers

And of course, none of it means anything without the dogs who took a chance on us along the way, including Bingo, our very first digital client, along with Sparky, Tony, Clo, Arlo, Snowball, Henry, and… Dizzy the Frenchie! Thank you for being our…pioneer pups!
Here is to year one, and to many many more.

From our hearth to yours, let’s keep growing together.

Meet the newest addition to the A Dog's Hearth menu. 🍗

One of the things that kept coming up in my nutrition studies at Southern Illinois University was organ meats — specifically how nutrient dense they are, naturally rich in B vitamins, iron, CoQ10, and essential amino acids that support everything from energy metabolism to cellular health.

So I built a recipe around them.

Chicken hearts, chicken liver, and whole chicken thighs. Pearled barley for whole grain energy. Chia seeds for natural omega fatty acids. Eggshell powder for calcium. Kelp for trace minerals.

High protein. Lower carb. All natural. Nothing synthetic.

And just like we talked about in the recent video — this is not a replacement for anything.

Every dog is different. Some thrive on simplicity. Others are ready for something with more depth. This is a new option, sitting alongside everything we already offer, built for the dogs who are ready for it.
Because variety is not just a preference. In nutrition, it is a principle.

Two new recipes have joined the A Dog’s Hearth menu. 🐾

A completely grain free lamb recipe built around whole lamb, lamb liver, red lentils, sweet potato, and kelp. And a new chicken recipe centered on an organ blend of chicken hearts, liver, and thighs, alongside pearled barley, chia seeds, and kelp.

Both recipes reflect what A Dog’s Hearth has been learning through my nutrition studies paired with what I have been hearing from dog owners at our markets this spring. Every dog is different, and the more variety we can offer, the better we can serve each one.

Our original chicken and lamb recipes are still very much part of the menu, and are not going anywhere. These are simply new options for dogs who are ready for them.
Curious which recipe might be the right fit? A personalized nutrition analysis comes complimentary with your first order.

As always, any changes to your dog’s diet or health concerns are worth discussing with your veterinarian as part of their overall care plan.

Real questions. Honest answers. 🐾

After a few markets this spring some questions kept coming up at the A Dog's Hearth booth.

Will my dog actually eat it? How long does it last? Is fresh food affordable if you are not ready to switch completely? What is actually in the bowl?

Because at A Dog's Hearth, we believe the best thing we can do for dog owners across our community is give them real information, not a sales pitch. You decide what is right for your dog.

Drop your own question in the comments. We read every one.

Your dog's gut doesn't lie. 🔑

Think of digestion like a lock and a key.

The key? The environment — specifically the pH balance inside your dog's gut.
The lock? An enzyme called pepsin, responsible for breaking down protein.

When the pH is right, the key fits perfectly. Pepsin works. Protein gets fully broken down and absorbed.

But when the pH is off? The key no longer fits. The lock stays closed — and your dog is eating good protein without actually getting the full benefit from it.

Here's what most people miss: moisture plays a huge role in keeping that pH environment balanced.

Fresh food with proper hydration keeps that environment where it needs to be — so every meal your dog eats actually works the way it's supposed to.

This is why moisture content is built into every recipe we make at Dog's Hearth.

Follow us for more on the science behind what your dog is actually eating. 🐾

Every conversation we have with you... the questions you ask, the stories you share about your dogs genuinely shapes how we think about what we do.

You help us understand what pet parents actually need, not just what we assume.

That’s the thing about real food for real dogs. It’s not just about ingredients. It’s about knowing the animals it’s made for.

So thank you for talking with us. For being curious. For caring enough to ask.

Every exchange makes us better at what we do — and hopefully makes a real difference for your pup.

We’ll be back. Come find us. 🐾

Nothing means more to us than hearing how our fresh, whole-food meals have made a difference for dogs and their families...
