🩺🐷 It is time to celebrate National Vet Tech Week! 🐄

We appreciate the incredible work of our technicians here at AZMVP! This week is all about recognizing their dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to animal care. We would like to take a moment to acknowledge the extensive knowledge and training that vet techs possess. They are the backbone of any veterinary practice, assisting veterinarians in various tasks such as administering medications, performing lab tests, and above all- providing compassionate care to animals in need.

Thank you Kristin, McKenna and Stephanie!! 🙂

🤔 WHY ARE GOATS DISBUDDED? 🐐

Horns are beneficial for protection from predators and heat dissipation. However, horns can cause problems for producers when they are handling goats, and horned goats can injure other goats in shared housing.

During the first week of life is the best time to disbud your goat kid or calf. We provide pain management for each animal.

The animal is sedated and the area is blocked with a local anesthetic. We shave and prep the area. A disbudding iron and scalpel is used to surgically remove the horn bud. The area is sprayed with aluminum bandage and the anesthesia is reversed.

🐮 Keeping your cattle's feet trimmed and properly balanced plays a key role in their overall health and production. When cattle become lame from overgrown hooves, we find that they both eat and move around much less. This leads the other health issues and does not allow them to gain weight at an appropriate rate.

🐂 If you own cattle whose hooves could use some TLC, give us a call and let's treat them to a pedicure! We have a mobile hydraulic trimming chute to provide professional, safe and efficient services for bovines of all sizes.

🐷🐮🐴 Do you need a reliable veterinarian you can trust with all your equine and livestocks medical needs, including emergencies?
Arizona Mobile vet has you covered!

All we need to do is establish a VCPR(Veterinary Client Patient Relationship).
This allows our veterinarians to establish a relationship with our clients and meet your livestock. Scheduling a wellness exam, vaccine appointment, piggy spa day, or equine dental appointment is the perfect way to establish a valid VCPR.

A valid VCPR means you have had us out for routine care within a 12 month period. If it's been longer than 12 months that we have seen your animal, now is the perfect time to re-establish that relationship.

Arizona Mobile Vet offers emergency services for established clients with current VCPRs. Becoming an established client allows us to be there for assistance if an emergency arises.

🐷🪨 ROCKY’S ROCKY SITUATION 🪨🐷

Meet Rocky, a pet pig who presented to us for inappetence and vomiting.

Rocky wasn’t historically known to eat rocks, but while his owner was away on vacation, his food had been fed to him on top of rocks. Pigs are naturally curious and are known for eating things rather indiscriminately—and Rocky apparently decided the rocks were part of the meal.

Given his clinical signs, we recommended sedated abdominal radiographs.

And, well… the X-rays speak for themselves.

We found numerous rocks filling Rocky’s stomach, with additional rocks peppered throughout his gastrointestinal tract.

Because of the severity of the findings, along with time and geographic constraints, Rocky was referred for surgical treatment.

❤️ We’re happy to report that surgery was successful! Rocky is now back home and healing up with his family.

Cases like Rocky’s are an important reminder of why a complete diagnostic workup can make the difference between a positive and a negative outcome. Vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or simply “not acting right” can sometimes be the first signs of a serious problem.

🚑 Arizona Mobile Vet brings the diagnostic tools to you. All of our doctors have digital radiography and ultrasound right on their trucks, allowing us to obtain valuable diagnostic information during your farm or house call.

If your animal seems off, don’t wait—reach out as soon as possible.
