Can I let you out a little secret?

Some of the worst mats are completely hidden.

A dog can look brushed on top, but underneath?
That’s where we often find tight tangle, hiding beneath the ears, under collars, in armpit, around the tail, and under the legs.

And those mats aren’t just “knots.”

They pull on the skin every time your dog moves. They trap, moisture and dirt. Sometimes they even hide sores underneath.

That’s why good groomers check all those sneaky little areas during appointments.

And honestly, matting happens to GOOD dog owners all the time – especially with doodles, double coats, and soft fluffy hair. Friction spots mat incredibly fast.

So if your groomer pointed out a problem area, it’s never meant to shame you. It’s simply part of helping. Keep your dog comfortable.

Because underneath all the fluff, comfort is always the real goal. 🐾

Groomer Tips
Quaker City Pet Grooming LLC

Sometimes groomers notice health changes before anyone else does.

And honestly, that’s not because owners aren’t paying attention. Life is busy. You see your dog every single day, so tiny changes can happen gradually without standing out right away.

But groomers? We’re seeing and feeling your dog up close during every appointment.

That means sometimes we notice things like new lumps, irritated skin, ear infections starting, changes in mobility, sore spots, or even tics hiding under all that fluff.

There have been so many times I’ve gently mentioned something to an owner and they’ve said,
“Oh wow… I hadn’t even noticed that.”

And that’s exactly why routine grooming matters so much.
It’s not just about looking cute after an appointment. It’s another set of caring eyes on your dog’s health and comfort.

Honestly, dogs with owners who keep up with regular grooming appointments are often the ones who get little issues caught earlier — and that can make such a big difference long term. 🐾

Helpful Grooming Tips
Please do not request to have your dog shaved to “keep her or him cool”. A dogs coat exists to regulate body temperature.
Air flow across the skin is not going to cool her if there is no perspiration. Dogs do not sweat through their skin. They pant, and sweat through their paws.
Sunlight on their exposed skin will overheat a dog.
You are not doing them any favors by asking to have them shaved.

If your groomer shaved her/him because her hair was matted, that was necessary.
But you need to be seeing a groomer for regular maintenance cuts and baths at least every 4-6 weeks if you are not brushing and combing your dogs hair regularly.

Dog care starts with the owner. When an owner doesn’t properly care for their dog, the groomer has no choice but to shave and allow the hair to grow back in normally in hopes the owner will take care of it the next time.

So don’t blame the groomer for these issues. Take responsibility for the health of your pet and maintain their coat.
