Last week we had to say "see you Later" to Darling aka Daisy. Darling came to us 4 years ago at the age of 10 with many other in her house as the owner could not afford to care for all of them. At that time she had 3 kittens that came in as well. Yes at the age of 10 she was still having kittens. But this was her last litter as she was soon spayed. Darling was the sweetest cat ever that was doted on by all the volunteers but we knew she deserved more. WE knew an elderly person (who was just diagnosed with dementia) whose husband just went into a nursing home and was very lonely. As you can see, it was the perfect "medicine" to cure her loneliness. For two years she lived in with Pauline. She spent the day on her lap and slept with her every night. In April of 2025, we found out that Darling was not feeling well. She was diagnosed with Kidney disease and came back to the shelter for treatment. After spending a bit at the shelter, Pauline felt that she could not adequately care for Darling with her disease so she went home with one of our volunteers, Kathi. (Don't worry, Pauline got another cat to keep her company and we kept her updated on Darling's care.)
Darling was doing well with Kathi until she discovered a lump. She went to visit Dr David Lambert at Quinebaug Valley Veterinary Hospital, LLC and she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Dr Dave suggested steroid injections which Kathi brought her to her appointments. She was doing very well and a month ago her health began to decline. At her last visit, Dr Dave decided it was time for Darling to rest so with Kathi by her side she said "see you later". While we are heartbroken to see her go, in her short time with us she brought so much love and happiness: to our volunteers, to Pauline and to Kathi. We love all of our cats and regardless of whether they are in the shelter or foster homes we strive to make sure their days are filled with love and happiness.
We want to thank the doctors at Quinebaug Valley Veterinary Hospital, LLC who cared for Darling and for being their for all or our our cats. We could not do what we do if not for them.
So "see you Later" Darling we were blessed to have you as part of the Paws Family and will miss you but take solace that you were loved until the very end.
