PAWS FOR LIFE/ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROTECTION SOCIETY

PAWS FOR LIFE/ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROTECTION SOCIETY The objective was to place each of these animals into a loving home. In its beginning there was no shelter facility. Thankfully, in March of 1980 Albert O.

PAWS For Life – Animal Welfare & Protection Society began in 1978 with the collective actions of eight individuals who saw the need, in Pueblo, to provide help and aid to abandoned, abused and unwanted companion animals. Care for animals was provided strictly through a foster home system but it quickly became obvious that the foster home system was limited. Large numbers of adoptable animals were

still left to die in the streets or were subject to disposal at taxpayers’ expense. Pritz donated land at 3420 West 8th Street (off Pueblo Boulevard and 11th Street) and a shelter facility was built. This is where the current shelter still remains. In 1981 the PAWS For Life – Animal Welfare and Protection Society was incorporated in the state of Colorado as a non-profit organization and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) corporation by the Internal Revenue Service. PAWS For Life soon established a policy based on population control and adoption as alternatives to euthanasia and the organization began a campaign to focus public awareness on the increasing needs of helpless and homeless animals. In response to this, contributions from the public enabled us to construct a small, 10 run kennel. The shelter later expanded to 16 indoor access runs and four outside runs. In 2001 the shelter underwent a renovation project that made the shelter safer and healthier for dogs and staff and brought it into compliance with PACFA regulations. Our shelter presently has 26 runs and houses between 50 and 60 dogs at any one time. With donations from individuals and businesses, fundraising activities and an occasional grant as our only means of support we have been able to care for and adopt out several thousand animals into good homes.

Update on sweet Patty and Clover- Thank you to their loving new dad for giving them a loving home and the patience they needed.🩷🩷🐾🐾

Patty and Clover started their time in their new house so scared they hardly came out from their hiding place. But slowly and surely their need for pets and to play overpowered their fear. They’re the whole reason I want to come home from work at night. They’re so loving and energetic that after only a few weeks they’ve turned this quiet house into a home.

Happy Gotcha Day to sweet Dug, now known as River! 💙🐾

River's journey hasn't always been an easy one. After learning about his rough start in life, we he deserved a chance to finally know what love, safety, and family truly mean.

Today, we're celebrating the wonderful family who opened their hearts to him and are dedicated to giving River the life he has always deserved. Because of them, River will never have to wonder where he belongs again. He now knows what forever means. 🏡❤️

Thank you for choosing adoption and for giving this special boy the happy ending he's waited so patiently for.

Happy Gotcha Day, River! We can't wait to see all the adventures ahead. 🎉🐾

🚨 PLEASE HELP BENJI BOY 🚨

Benji Boy is struggling in the shelter, and we desperately need a foster or forever home for him. 💙

At 4 years old, this Terrier mix may seem barky and overwhelmed in his kennel, but that’s not who he really is. The shelter environment is stressful for Benji. Once he’s outside, away from the noise and commotion, his true personality shines through. He’s sweet, playful, affectionate, and absolutely loves his squeaky giraffe toy. 🦒

Benji is looking for a calm, quiet home where he can finally relax and feel secure. He would do best in an adult-only home or with older children (14+) who understand and respect his boundaries. Benji needs to be the only pet so he can receive the love and attention he deserves. Privacy fence required (he climbs chain link).

We know Benji’s person is out there. He has so much love, loyalty, and companionship to offer—he just needs someone willing to give him a chance.

Please help us share Benji’s story. A foster home could change everything for him, and a forever home would be even better. 🐾

💗 Meet Phoebe 💗

Phoebe is one of those souls you meet and instantly fall in love with. She came to us when she was just a year old, and we knew right away—we had to give her a chance.

Phoebe has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), often called “wobbly syndrome.” It simply means she moves a little differently than other cats… but Phoebe doesn’t know she’s any different—and that’s the beautiful part. ☀️

Like many CH kitties, Phoebe has her wobbles, but she still loves to play, explore, and soak up all the love she can get. She can use the litter box, though she may occasionally have accidents outside the box, so she’ll need a patient and understanding home.

🏡 We are looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home for this special girl.

What Phoebe needs is simple:
💗 A safe, loving home
🧸 Carpet or rugs for stability (puzzle mats work great!)
🥣 Silicone bowls for easier eating and drinking
🛏️ Cozy blankets and easy-to-access spaces
🐾 A litter box she can easily get in and out of
💛 Someone who understands that accidents may happen and loves her unconditionally

If you choose to foster Phoebe, we will provide the supplies and support you need to help her succeed.

Phoebe doesn’t need perfection. She doesn’t feel sorry for herself. She plays, explores, loves attention, and enjoys life just like any other cat. She simply needs someone willing to see past her wobbles and love her for the amazing girl she is.

And trust us… she is so worth it. 🐱✨
