🐾 WHY DID MY GROOMER HAVE TO SHAVE MY DOG’S TAIL? 🐾

A beautiful fluffy tail can become severely matted much faster than many pet parents realize. Because tail hair is often long and fine, loose undercoat, friction, moisture, and missed brushing can cause small tangles to tighten into dense mats.

And once a mat becomes tight, this is no longer just a cosmetic issue—it can become painful.

Severe matting can:

• Constantly pull and pinch the skin
• Trap moisture, dirt, urine or f***l material
• Hide redness, sores and skin infections
• Cause bruising and irritation
• In extreme cases, interfere with healthy circulation

✂️ WHY CAN’T WE JUST BRUSH IT OUT?

When a tail is severely matted, brushing or “picking out” the mat can cause unnecessary pain and potentially damage the delicate skin underneath.

Tail skin is thin, and a tight mat can sit extremely close to it. Sometimes the safest and most humane choice is to carefully clip the matted coat away.

Yes, that may mean your pup leaves with a very short tail—or even the dreaded little “rat tail.” 🐀😅

We promise, we don't shave a beautiful tail because we want to.

We do it when removing the coat is safer and kinder than trying to save hair at the expense of your dog's comfort.

After severe matting is removed, the skin underneath may be red, tender or irritated. If we discover wounds, significant swelling, infection or other concerning skin changes, we may recommend having your veterinarian examine your dog.

Hair grows back. Our priority is making grooming as safe and comfortable as possible for your pup.

Between appointments, brushing all the way down to the skin and following with a metal comb—especially through the tail, ears, legs, armpits and other friction areas—can help prevent those little tangles from becoming painful mats.

Scout came in feeling “ruff” this morning but is feeling AMAZING now!! His new mommy brought him in, he was severely matted and in need of some tender love from K9 Nation and that’s just what he got!

Looking for a loving home for a sweet 4-year-old male Schnauzer 🐾

I’m his groomer and have gotten to know this little guy well, and he truly deserves a calm, loving home. He’s a 4-year-old male Schnauzer who is on the shy side at first, but once he warms up, he’s very sweet and gentle.
He would do best with someone who has the time and patience to help him feel safe and loved. A quieter home where he can build trust at his own pace would be perfect for him. With a little consistency and kindness, he really blossoms.
He’s past the puppy stage, so he’s more relaxed, but he still enjoys attention and companionship. He just needs the right person to give him that chance ❤️
