🐾 BRINGING K-9 MOUSE HOME 🐾

This afternoon, we will be picking up K-9 Mouse’s ashes from our veterinarian and bringing her home to West Warwick with a short procession. We expect to pass in front of West Warwick Police Headquarters at approximately 2:00 PM.

The procession will continue south on Main Street, turn left by the Gazebo, then left onto Legion Way before entering the rear parking lot of the municipal complex.

Anyone wishing to pay their respects is welcome to gather in front of the Police Department/Town Hall building or anywhere along this short route as we bring Mouse home.

We understand that many may be unable to attend this afternoon, and we want to reassure everyone that there will be an extended opportunity to pay their respects in the very near future as we prepare for Mouse’s public memorial service.

Thank you for the incredible outpouring of love and support for Mouse and our department. As we take this small but meaningful step in honoring her life and service, we are grateful to our community for helping us bring our beloved Mouse home. 💙🐾

Squirrel Awareness Month is an annual event held in October to raise awareness of squirrels. While many people consider eastern gray squirrels to be pests who consume all their birdseed and cause damage, squirrels are much more than that. They are essential components of the environment, mainly in forest regeneration. Because of their feeding and food saving habits, they make significant contributions to the makeup of planting new forests.

Squirrels are members of the rodent family. There are more than 200 species around the globe. Eastern Gray Squirrels, Red Squirrels, and Southern Flying Squirrels are the common ones in New England.

The long walk…with “The Quiet Lives Project”

We can’t even imagine what they feel as they walk the long walk…the fear, the uncertainty, the sadness and the loss.

This photo is so poignant yet it’s the reality of shelter animals everywhere! One step at a time they walk down past other animals wondering, with so many new sights, smells, sounds and completely surrounded by the unfamiliar! The stress level just is overbearing, but they have no choice! This becomes their new reality…

Some are lucky and don’t have to walk this walk for long, they get adopted quickly and start a new life but for so many that wait this walk becomes part of their daily routine! Day after day, night after night they walk the long walk while they wait and hope their chance will come! And for the staff and volunteers who walk them down the long walk everyday, they keep them do their very best to keep them happy and hopeful too!

Everyday they pray that they will be seen…everyday they pray that it’ll be their turn not to ever have to walk the long walk again!!

Who says love has an age limit?

Sweet Fiona is still waiting for someone to find her and give her the loving home she so deeply deserves. She may not be a tiny puppy anymore, but she still has so much love to give—and she could be someone’s whole world.

Fiona is a beautiful 9-year-old black Shepherd with a gentle, loving nature and all the makings of a wonderful companion. She deserves a family who will cherish her, a cozy place to call home, and someone to show her that the best chapters of life can begin at any age.
