Sometimes gradual weight gain is hard to notice when you see your pet every day.

A healthy body condition involves more than the number on the scale. Your veterinarian can evaluate your pet's ribs, waist, body shape, muscle condition, age, and lifestyle to determine an appropriate weight range.

Wondering where your pet falls? Call (509) 786-1393 to schedule a wellness visit.

A Friendly Reminder to Keep All Pets Safe!

At Prosser Animal Hospital the safety of our patients, clients, and staff is always a top priority!

We kindly ask that ALL dogs arrive on a secure leash (if retractable please keep it locked) & they cannot slip out of their collars and ALL cats arrive in a secure carrier when visiting our clinic.

Dogs: Even the friendliest, most well-behaved dogs can become nervous, frightened, or reactive in an unfamiliar environment. Keeping your dog leashed helps prevent unexpected interactions, escapes, and potential injuries.

Cats: Cats must be transported in a secure carrier. Vet visits can be stressful, and unfamiliar sounds, smells, and other animals can cause even the calmest cats to panic. A carrier helps prevent escapes, injuries, and unnecessary stress. Unfortunately we have had many cats escape or become very scared in our lobby and end up hurting their owner.

Why is this so important?

We see pets of all personalities, sizes, and temperaments. Some may be anxious, fearful, reactive, or recovering from an illness or injury. Even a brief unexpected interaction can create a dangerous situation.

Our clinic is also placed by a very busy road, having your pet in a carrier or leashed helps ensure their safety.

For everyone’s safety, please keep your pets properly secured from the moment you leave your vehicle until you return to it.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to provide a safe, comfortable environment for every pet & owner that walks through our doors!

Dogs don't always show stress by barking or trying to escape. Their signals can be much more subtle.

Repeated yawning, lip licking, turning away, trembling, tucked tails, flattened ears, or suddenly refusing treats may all be ways your dog is communicating discomfort.

Learning to recognize those early signals allows us to make experiences more comfortable. Have concerns about your dog's behavior or anxiety? Call (509) 786-1393.

Cats may be more independent in some ways, but they still need plenty of care and enrichment. Playtime, scratching opportunities, clean litter boxes, appropriate nutrition, dental care, and routine veterinary visits all contribute to a healthy life. Team cat, team dog, or team both? For pet care questions, call (509) 786-1393.

This Día de los Mu***os, our veterinary clinic will be creating a special Pet Ofrenda to honor and remember the beloved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🕊️❤️

We invite our clients to be part of this meaningful tradition by bringing in a photo of a beloved pet who is no longer with us. Their photo will be lovingly displayed on our ofrenda as we celebrate the love, joy, and memories they left behind. 🐶🐱💕

🌼 How to Participate:
🐾 Bring a photo of your beloved pet to our clinic.
🐾 We will add their photo to our special memorial display.
🐾 Stop by to see our ofrenda and honor the pets who will forever hold a place in our hearts.

Though they may no longer be by our sides, they will forever remain in our hearts. 🩷

Dogs communicate constantly through body language. Tail position, ears, posture, facial expressions, vocalizations, and even how they move can give us clues about whether they’re relaxed, excited, nervous, or uncomfortable. Learning to recognize those signals can help you better understand your dog. Questions about a behavior change? Call (509) 786-1393.

Brushing at home is an excellent habit, but it can't remove hardened tartar or fully address disease below the gumline.

A veterinary dental procedure lets the mouth be thoroughly evaluated and the teeth cleaned above and below the gumline, where periodontal disease can develop unseen.

Is your pet due for a dental evaluation? Call (509) 786-1393.

Those little treats can add up faster than you think!

Treats should complement a nutritionally balanced diet, not become a major source of daily calories. Keep portions small and remember that chews, table scraps, and training rewards all count toward your dog's daily intake.

Concerned about your pet's weight or nutrition? Call (509) 786-1393.
