Hunter Farms Quality riding lessons for all ages and levels, kid's summer riding program, horse shows and boarding

Over the past 25 years International rider, trainer, course designer, and United States Equestrian Team veteran Andrew H. Philbrick has developed Hunter Farms into a full service equestrian center. We offer meticulous horse care, thoughtful instruction, and a personalized training program for you and your horse. We also bring our experience to beginner children and adults through our top quality riding school program. We have started many children over the years and we are proud of their accomplishments. Some of our students have gone on to be professionals that have competed in Olympic, World Cup, and World Championships. Several collegiate riding stars, veterinarians, and top amateur riders have all had their start at Hunter Farms. Just as important have been those that have developed a life long passion for our sport and have enjoyed passing this on to their own children. Our sister facility, "Princeton Show Jumping" in neighboring Skillman, NJ, offers nationally acclaimed United States Equestrian Federation licensed horse shows. We also offer a local show series for those just starting out.

Trainer Tip Thursday!

Proper communication with your horse requires a delicate balance of the aids. Pressure from the hands must be backed up with leg, but too much of either becomes confusing.

Learning the right ratio of leg to hand allows riders to steer efficiently, encourage their horse to move correctly, and be responsive to aids. Is this something you need to work on? Learn more at hunterfarms.us.

Trainer Tip Thursday!

As riders advance in the hunters, jumpers, and equitation, rollback turns become a familiar foe. Learning how to execute these well can shave seconds off your time and demonstrate a handy horse-and-rider combination.

Early on in his students' riding careers, Andrew teaches how to manage their horses' strides in a variety of situations. Is this something that you need to work on? Learn more at hunterfarms.us.

Trainer Tip Thursday!

Correct bend is fundamental to good riding. Proper flexion of your horse's body improves their balance, encourages suppleness, and helps build muscle.

Andrew underscores the importance of intentional, correct riding, during which the horse continually improves. Does this sound like something you could benefit from? Learn more at hunterfarms.us.

Trainer Tip Thursday!

The connection between the rider's hands and the horse's mouth is one of the main ways to communicate with your horse. With a long, flapping rein, your communication is unstable and ineffective.

Andrew teaches his students that accurate connection is how you get an edge up on your competitors. With short reins and good connection, your horse knows exactly what is being asked. Do you want to improve your communication with your horse? Learn more at hunterfarms.us.

Trainer Tip Thursday!

Horses are unpredictable, and accidents happen, but some habits can ensure small accidents don't turn into big ones. If your horse trips, looking down with a forward-leaning upper body can throw your horse more off balance.

Andrew emphasizes keeping your eyes up and forward to allow your horse to recover from the stumble and keep you in the saddle. Do you want to learn more of Andrew's small adjustments that can drastically improve your riding? Learn more at hunterfarms.us.
