I’m sure y’all remember Benny, aka the gelding who was flying like a kite a couple days ago! LOL

With some more time, patience, and consistency, look at him today!

He was focused on what I was asking, freeing himself up, and staying much more connected with me both mentally and physically. These are the moments that make all the time and hard work worth it.

Benny is learning that he doesn’t have to constantly be in survival mode. He can slow down, think, listen, and trust his handler. We still have plenty to work on, but seeing this kind of change in him is HUGE!

We at Tana Wells Horsemanship had a great time yesterday at the Salyersville show! 🩵

Jensen and Sunshine showed three times in some big classes and made some fantastic rides! They came home with a 5th place, and I couldn’t be more proud of how they handled themselves.

I also brought Roman along for his very first trip to a show! We entered him in a Halter class, and for only having a week of work on it, he was absolutely fantastic. He was a gentleman the entire time, and I was able to figure out a few things for us to touch up on before the International.

I also got to take a new member of the barn to the show and show him once. He was such a great boy, so gentle, broke, and willing! I purchased him specifically for our lesson program, and I truly think he is going to be a fantastic addition and contribution to the barn.

All in all, it was a great day full of good horses, good rides, and lots to be proud of!

Here is Hammer, my BMM Mustang! 🔨

This week, I’ve decided that since we’re a little behind the timeline I originally had in mind, I want to shift my focus. When competition time rolls around, my main goal isn’t going to be how much I can teach Hammer or how many things we can check off a list. My biggest priority is making sure he has a solid foundation and, most importantly, a genuine desire to trust his handler.

Hammer started out extremely reactive and stand-offish toward people, so seeing how far he has come in such a short amount of time has been incredible. He continues to surprise me every session, and he truly aims to please.

This week, we went back and touched up on his lunging while also introducing the saddle pad. I took my time, allowed him to process everything, and gave him the opportunity to figure it out without rushing him. In the end, he accepted the saddle pad with ease and had no negative reaction.

I’m so excited to see how he handles the next step as we start preparing him for the saddle! I have no doubt this boy is going to teach me just as much as I teach him! He is truly so lovable and everyday he is getting more and more in my
pocket lol!
