Since 1884, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association has provided that necessary function to its members and the entire community. To accomplish this goal, the OVMA focuses on lifelong learning, stewardship, compassion, and community in veterinary medicine. The OVMA strives to be a trusted and valued source of information, not

only for veterinarians, but government bodies, academic institutions, and the general public. We aim to stay current on advances in technology, research findings, recalls, new products, and any other developments that affect veterinarians, their clients, and their patients. We represent more than 2,400 veterinarians in a variety of fields and specialties, working in both urban centers and rural communities. We know that we can best accomplish what's necessary by joining together, and together, we share best practices, support one another, and impact the future of veterinary medicine.

New World screwworm is back in the national conversation, making awareness and preparedness increasingly important for veterinarians. The parasite can infest wounds in warm-blooded animals, including livestock and companion animals.

Federal animal health officials continue working to prevent its spread, while the FDA has authorized additional animal drugs for prevention and treatment. Veterinarians play an important role in early recognition, reporting and helping clients understand the risk. The FDA is taking steps aimed at strengthening the U.S. animal drug supply chain. A new pilot program is designed to encourage more domestic manufacturing of animal drug products and active pharmaceutical ingredients, helping reduce the risk of shortages and supply chain disruptions affecting animal health.

This morning, OVMA members Diana Cron, Beth Ruggles, Rona Shapiro and Alec Land staffed the Animal Life & Learning Center at the Ohio State Fair. As our on-site ambassadors, they greeted visitors, showed off our mobile vet truck, and answered questions about veterinary medicine.
