🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day from Emory Animal Hospital! 🐾❤️🤍💙
Today, we celebrate the hardworking people who keep our communities running.
🔨 A few fun & interesting Labor Day facts:
⭐ The first Labor Day celebration took place on September 5, 1882, in New York City and included a parade followed by a huge picnic and celebration!
⭐ Reports estimate that 10,000–20,000 people marched in that very first Labor Day parade—and nearly 25,000 workers and their families attended the festivities afterward!
⭐ Oregon was the first state to officially recognize Labor Day as a holiday in 1887.
⭐ In 1894, Congress officially made the first Monday in September a national holiday honoring American workers.
⭐ Here’s an interesting piece of history: historians still debate exactly who came up with Labor Day! Both Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labor leader, and Matthew Maguire, a machinist and labor leader, have been credited with helping originate the holiday.

Our patients have some pretty important jobs too! Dogs have worked alongside people as service dogs, therapy dogs, search-and-rescue dogs, detection dogs, livestock guardians, and more. Even our pets at home have an important job—making us smile! ❤️
This Labor Day, we want to say THANK YOU to workers everywhere—and an extra special thank-you to those who continue working on holidays, including veterinary teams, emergency personnel, first responders, healthcare workers, and so many others.
