🐊🦎 Happy Reptile Awareness Day!🦎🐊

While we do not see reptiles here, we still have a love and appreciation for them!

Today is a day to celebrate some of the most fascinating, misunderstood, and incredible animals on the planet, reptiles!

Meet Tyson the Savannah monitor. 💚 He may have a big personality, and sleep in weird positions, but he’s also a wonderful reminder of just how unique and intelligent reptiles can be.

Reptiles aren’t scary, they’re amazing creatures with their own behaviors, needs, and personalities. Days like today are a great opportunity to learn a little more, appreciate them a little more, and help others see them in a different light.

So here’s to Tyson and all the scales, claws, tails, and tiny (and not so tiny!) reptile personalities out there! 🦎💚

🐾Pet Obesity Awareness Day🐾

Did you know that carrying extra weight can have a big impact on your pet’s health and quality of life?

Just like in people, obesity in pets can increase the risk of health problems such as arthritis, diabetes, heart and respiratory disease, and certain types of cancer. Even a few extra pounds can put additional stress on your pet’s joints and body.

The good news? Small changes can make a big difference!🐶🐱
✔️ Measure meals rather than feeding by guesswork
✔️ Be mindful of treats and table scraps
✔️ Encourage regular exercise and play
✔️ Schedule routine wellness visits so we can monitor your pet’s weight and body condition
✔️ Ask our veterinary team for help creating a healthy weight plan tailored to your pet

And remember: weight management isn’t about a number on the scale it’s about helping your pet live a longer, healthier, happier life. Sometimes there is an underlying medical condition so it is always good to have us check!
If you’re wondering whether your pet is at a healthy weight, give us a call or talk with us at your next visit. We’re always happy to help!

🐱 Jerry Rose pictured below wants to know, is your cat slowing down? It could be Osteoarthritis!
Cats are experts at hiding discomfort, so signs of arthritis can be subtle. You may notice that your cat:

🐾 Jumps less often or hesitates before jumping
🐾 Has difficulty getting up or using stairs
🐾 Sleeps more or is less interested in play
🐾 Seems stiff after resting
🐾 Has trouble grooming hard to reach areas
🐾 Is less tolerant of being touched or handled

These changes are not simply a normal part of getting older. Feline osteoarthritis (OA) is a painful, progressive condition that can affect your cat’s mobility and quality of life.

💙 The good news? There are treatment options!

Solensia® (frunevetmab) is a monthly injection specifically designed to help control osteoarthritis pain in cats. By targeting nerve growth factor (NGF), Solensia can help reduce pain and may allow cats to move more comfortably and get back to the activities they enjoy.

Every cat is different, and the best treatment plan may include a combination of pain management, weight management, environmental changes, and other supportive care.

📞 Contact our hospital to schedule an appointment and learn whether Solensia may be appropriate for your cat.
